Woodburn Drag strip, division 6 truck drags last weekend. What a blast, had about 50-60 rigs in the 4x4 class. I hate to admit it but it was my first time as a driver. Running a customers 2005 Duramax. We had exhaust, intake, crazy lary downloader, as well as some other goodies that I didn't tell him about on order. UPS screwed up and left them in Salt lake city, so I was left to run on just a superchip I had laying on the shelf. Best ET was a 15.52 @88.8mph. I really feel the truck had a 15.3 - 15.4 in her but I was dragging the brake scared of breaking out. Bracket racing has to be the most boring form of racing in the world to watch but it sure is challenging to race. I over thought and was eliminated in the second round after spinning the tires. I kept lifting but the track was really hot and the tires we were running were crap. My best reaction time was a .013 with a little tuning we should be deep into the 14's for seattle Sept 9. Who else on this board is racing????? Mike www.DunksPerformance.com
Pics, where's the pics? I have a drag strip about 10 miles from me that I might have to visit... after a few mods of course. :doah:
At woodburn (smaller track) the classes were 4x4 and hot truck. Hot truck was all 2x's and most Ford lightnings with a few 2x diesels and one really bad ass cummins that was running in the 11's and killing everybody. Eliminations are simple bracket racing. We had 4 time trials in the morning to figure our dial in times. That is how they make the field competitive. Time trials were fun because they are heads up but unoficial. Now when we go to seattle I think since that is a national event it might be a little more defined. Mike www.DunksPerformance.com
So what's the better setup for racing, 2x4 or 4x4? With a 2x4 you wouldn't loose power through the t-case etc. but with a 4x4 you could launch out with all 4 wheels pulling?
I believe RJF is referring to the fact that I am such a die hard cummins guy, not that there is anything wrong with Dmax. Yes I do love the I6, how easy it is to produce mind blowing torque, the reliability of the motor, the simplicity of the motor, and blowing your buddies very seriously built propaned powerstroke off the mountain with a filed fuel plate and a set of gov springs! But the trueth is I work on all three everyday and I appreciate them all (well that might be pushing it with the 6.0L) if fact after going to the drags I think the Dmax is the truck for the sport even though the cummins were putting the best over all numbers on the board. the only reason I would want 2x is for weight reasons. We put these things on the dyno and don't see near the powertrain loss that we do with gas motors.
Yes several, never saw one run under 16 seconds however. Lots of edge products in the fords. Mike www.DunksPerformance.com
As for the specs on the truck - 2001 Dodge, 4x4 Edge Drag Comp Full Suncoast trans Custom EDM injectors Switzer based "B" series turbo Its a pretty basic setup. We are especially proud of the fact that we are doing it with 170,000 miles on the motor with original, VP 44 injection pump and original, stock head gasket. Its best pass to date is a 12.001 at 111.25 mph, that is with some help from the bottle. This was at about 108 deg. at over 2500 ft elev. We are confident it would easily be in the 11's with better conditions. For those who like Diesel performance that are in the southwest, be sure to come out to Los Angeles County Raceway, www.lacr.net on Sept. 24,25 for the High Desert Diesel Roundup. There are sure to be some of the fastest diesel vehicles in the country in attendance. There will also be some of the baddest Diesel truck sled pullers there for the pulls. For more info go to http://www.bigpowerdiesel.com/2005_high_desert_diesel_roundup.html Hope to see some of you there. waytogo Craig
