Also from a private discussion. AFAIK, they are basically identical except the 3500 has dual wheels, no short bed option, and secondary over-load spring pack. Anything I missed?

I was wondering this myself, so it is just the dual rear wheels that gain you the extra tow rating? What is the differance between a 3/4 and 1 ton if they are both single wheel?

Actually, it's the dual wheels combined with the overload. The 3500 SRW is pretty much just the dually overloads on the 2500HD chassis. And seems like it came with different (larger?) tires and only a steel wheel option. But I could be confused on that last part... I seem to remember it was still long bed only too...

Not sure what the price increase is from a 2500 to 3500 but seems it would be an expensive overload option.
Does GMC offer the short bed 3500?

    No, only longbed.

The difference is 265 instead of 245 tires on steel wheels only. And overload springs AFAIK.

Yup, when I was comparing the 2500HD w/ 3500 the only thing I could find that the 3500 had over the 2500HD was the dullie rear and the weight numbers were higher. The 3500 listed less options/trim packages were LS flavor. I already knew I wanted an 8'bed and SRW so the 2500HD was a clear winner. If you goto buypower.com and 'build' one of each you will see the cost for a 3500SRW is way higher than a 2500HD. The 2500HD has more features too:doah:

Just get a new 2500HD, buy new tires of your choice, add some air bags, and order replacement 3500 badges. Then pocket the several grand you saved and enjoy the better ride and more capability provided by the air bags. :D waytogo

Oh, and one more thing. Regardless of the config you start with, budget shocks right up front. The stock shocks are an absolute joke for an HD pickup, especially at that price point. I put Billsteins on mine at around 10k or so and it was WAY worth it. Better ride, less "jounce" and felt WAY more in control at all levels. Some of the guys on TDP and "the place" rave about them far more than I feel supported in doing, but they are very much worth the upgrade. Even if you do Rancho 9ks or whatever, do something…

Hmmm, just dawned on me, I wonder if the stock crap shocks are a big part of what people like Bobby find SO bad about IFS?

hahaha Ya tell me about it!

I still have the factory shocks and I swear they are already 1/2 shot. There is one spot on my daly commute were my rig starts 'humping the sky' due to the hwy + overpass then back to hwy being perfectly uneven were my rig just whooosh whooosh whoosh, straight up and down, no sway but the shocks definitally suck:eek:

As soon as my 'truck budjet' lands in my pocket I will be ordering Blistens, Jordan Brake contorller and a PJ trailerwaytogo :pimp: :pimp: waytogo
