i am thinking about selling my chip so that i can buy some gauges. i just bought the chip in june and the thing is amazing when it comes to power gains. in fact it is almost too much power and i don't have the money to build up my transmission so i am thinking about just selling it and not having to worry about breaking anything. again, the chip is pretty much brand new and it works great. i am not 100% sure that i am going to sell it but if anyone is interested please let me know. i was thinking of selling it for around $450ish.
haha i knew you would give me crap for that. i dunno im not sure that i wanna do it but i really want my truck to last and i know that if anything breaks then im s.o.l. because my warranty will be totally voided. i bought the truck to last a long time and im just not sure the chip is helping that... even though it's really fun to drive
Dont get rid of it. as long as you exersize some self control you will be fine. If you just take it easy and keep it in 3 or less you shouldnt have to worry about it. I read in diesel power magazine that the weak link in the 48re is the torque converter. so if you just replace that when it breaks you will be fine!!! rotfl opcorn:
HAHA do you take mastercard?? rotfl What Im saying is...if you just use some self control and keep it at level 3 or less you will be fine. The tranny is going to go south eventually, but I highly doubt running the truck around in level 3 or less is going to SIGNIFICANTLY shorten the lifespan of the trans. the chip was money well spent and when you get a Jeep or a Boat or a Fifth wheel you will be glad you got it. Just take easy and NO power brakeing!! waytogo
I've got the DMax/Allison, so a different thing, but I run mine on lvl 4 pretty much all the time since '03 with no problems (yet). Biggest "hurt" on the tranny when you run a chip comes at 3 points. The first is stalled launches, don't do them without a built tranny. Second is feuling while shifting, so set the box to defuel all shifts, or at least locked shifts. And third, rolling in hard while in OD. That last one is the tough one to avoid at times. I've though several times about doing the OD lock out mod on mine so I can force it out of OD. But then I get started thinking about converters, pressure kits, ATS, Suncoast, ... Anyway, I don't drag race (well, not at the track or a regular basis anyway) but just generally enjoy the "umph" in everyday driving. My 7500lb truck has more "zing" than my wifes Supercharged GTP. Ticks her off when I leave her behind in a cloud of black smoke...
haha thats awesome... if i had an allison i would feel a lot more comfortable. i usually drive around in level 1 just so i get the best mileage possible and i havent used levels 4 or 5 for quite a while now just because i really dont want to break anything and have the warranty be all voided b/c of the chip.
haha it was a close tie believe me... i just liked how my dodge is as high as lifted chevy w/ 35's rotfl i also like the solid front axle and i dont like how the frame hangs down on the chevys (its ugly to me) oh and i like the cummins too imp:
Well, I have $400 sitting here burning a hole in my pocket, and I am not too far away, so I can come get it and hand you CASH$$$
i think im gonna take Brent's advice and keep the thing installed... BUT if my transmission breaks in half im driving up there and kicking his butt!
I just got rid of my 05 Dodge and had the Edge J/A and I loved it. I kept it on level 2 all the time (Except when I needed to show off) and the milage was better. I had a small problem with my tranny so I took out the Edge and bought a EGT gauge to seem less obvious and the dealer fixed the issue (something like a bad sillinoid) and they dropped the pan and replaced the oil when they fixed it and they said everthing else was fine. I really thought I killed it but all was good. I did quit a few burn outs and level 4 & 5 launches and nothing bad happened. So I think if you keep it reasonable level 2-3 you will be ok.
