Engine date code?

A little over a week ago I got a old Ford truck with a Cummins conversion. I purchased it from a stealership so they had no clue on the set-up. I'm trying to determine the year of the engine. And I figure you Dodge boys would have a good idear of where to look.

On my 4bt it's located on timing gear case, tag. But I don't see it there on the 6bt.

I'll give you some specs also.

400ftlbs
intercooled
the donor was a 1-ton SRW extended cab long box that had anti-lock brakes.
automatic overdrive trans. push button activation

It's a P series 6BT that they used from 1994 to early 1998 In the Dodges. They are all basically the same engines and parts. I honestly couldn't tell you where the manufacturer date would be. :doah:

Well I don't think that is a P7100 engine. The pump that is on that engine is a VE distributor-type fuel pump so it's probably 91-93.

 

I agree - it is not a P- pump.
I thought the tag on the timing gear had that info ??? maybe it has been removed or maybe they are in a differnt spot on that series engine.

If the donor truck had these parts then it's got to be a P series motor. Right? Auto with OD, with push button activation and is intercooled...sounds like a second gen to me.

 

Nope - the O.D. tranny came around when the first Gen. trucks were in production and that is not a P-7100 pump on that motor . It has got first Gen. written all over it as far as I know.

I'm new here, so this may be stupid, but I didn't think you could get a SRW 1 ton 2nd gen??? :stir:

 

Yep that's a VE pump

 

I take it that the intercooler was added to the VE engine then...??? Since, far as I know, VE engines weren't intercooled.

 

The intercooler was added in 91.5....

 

Then that would explain it.... I don't know why I said a P pump motor, since it's a VE valve cover....:doah:

 

All the 12 valves had the individual valves covers, VE or P pump

 

Yeah, but it's got that goofy top cover....

It's a 93' 3/4 ton with 135,000 miles.....same basic setup as the Fodge.

 

I wonder if they made it through that one

 

Lucky for the driver, he was drunk Thankfully no one else was involved in the accident.

What a shame to crash, what looked to be, a beautiful 1st gen. Theres no fixin that one.
