New to the site! Have Isspro gauges on order,(pyro, boost, fuel pressure) am looking into programmers/ chips, considering smarty or diablo. I feel that I need to upgrade stock exhaust first but am not sure how to go about it. My first question is what must I do at a minimum w/ the exhaust on an 07'? This is my second cummins but I am new to engine upgrades, I can't really give an exact target hp. This is a work/ personal tow rig, I pull 60-70% of mileage, anything from flatbeds to horse to cargo trailers typically 10k-16k. Travis
Hey Travis welcome to the site.Congrats on the new truck. The products that you are looking at are all great as far as the programmer I am using the Smarty as one of mine and think it is a great unit and would recommend it.For most people it is all they need and it can grow with your mods.As far as exhaust I run a BD 5" also a great product and one of the best sounding. I don't know if BD makes one for a regen system if thats what you have if they do I would use The BD exhaust.I also have heard that Magna flo stuff is good I think its a little loud but looks like quality stuff. You may want to add a trans temp gauge to your truck since you do tow alot.Hope this helps. Bob.
The truck is an 07', 5.9L, manual, dually, I posted this in my profile but am not sure how to get it to show on the screen, not that savvy w/ computer. Is there any reason to have trans temp gauge w/ manual.
For your exhaust I would go with the MBRP system. They offer a cat test pipe for all those who would want to keep their cat for now. It gives you the option to delete it later if your local laws allow. I have the MBRP cool duals on my rig which is just about the same as yours. Good sound and some noticable power. The Smarty is the way to go for a programer, as stated earlier it has more than enough options to grow as your modifications grow as well. LT.
I have heard high regards on the Smarty, compared to the predator/puck what would be the benefits of the Smarty? As far as the exhaust, is it neccesary to replace the whole system on the 07? Will I experience louder exhaust w/ cat removed? I don't know how the local laws read, we don't have inspections in MT however. As this is family vehicle as well I don't want extremely loud, especially in the cab.
The Smarty gives you honest, safe horsepower. The Smarty also gives you the ability to read trouble codes, erase trouble codes, and reprogram for larger tires. Check out their website http://www.madselectronics.com/ and you will see what everyone is talking about. For your exhaust, yes, your exhaust tone will be a little bit louder without the cat verses with. It is not noticeable inside the cab but you can tell when you get on it near a wall or another building. It is louder outside the truck. The MBRP website also offers sound clips so you can hear what your truck should sound like with their system installed in your rig. http://www.mbrp.com/?section=Automotive LT.
One other thing to keep in mind is start saving for a clutch. If you don't slip the clutch, then you only have to worry about the Dual Mass flywheel failing. The G56 dual mass flywheel is basically a flywheel mounted to a flexplate, similar to auto transmission converters. The Flexplate can crack and sometimes plain shear off. Be careful with extra power until you can address that.
of all of the choices Smarty is the best if you can afford it. I ran the diablo set up and it made my tranny slip in the performance tune without giving it much. not to mention it took for ever to change tunes. I am much happier with my quad setup than anything I have tried. but My wallet doesnt support Smarty.
