I'm noticing when I start my rig in the morning the fuel pressure will come right up to 14 psi at idle and as I put it in gear it will drop to 3 - 4 psi for about 3 seconds then back up to 14. It has started to do this more often at stoplights and during braking, always coming back up to 14. It sounds like the lift pump is starting to go. It has 30k on it now, 24k when I bought it so I don't know the maintenance history. I went ahead and purchased a stock lift pump from the Cummins dealer for $139 as the Dodge dealer tried to sell me the in tank "upgrade" for $580. Is anyone running the BD Auxiliary pump? I'm going to install the new pump today and would like some opinions on what people have done to help. I'm really happy with my Edge Attitude for helping in the monitoring department.
You might want to look at Glacier Diesel's lift pump replacement kit. A friend of mine just did the install and said it is great. 19-20psi at idle and no less then 14 psi at WOT. http://www.glacierdieselpower.com/gdept.asp?dept_id=09 Harley
I saw that kit, it looks pretty nice. I was looking at the Vulcan LP Relo Kit for now to get the life out of the pump I just bought. I've talked to a couple of guys that are running them and they say it's working pretty well for them.
Rattle, I'm the guy Harley is talking about, I have the GDP lift pump replacement product and I can't say anything bad about it. It's worth the money and the time to install, I just posted another post on "What are you feeding your truck with" about the product. Richard at GDP is a great guy besides very easy to deal with. Rob
Lift Pump I thought my lift pump might be going again so I stopped at a dealer in Indy. They wanted $462 for the kit to relocate to the frame rail and $300 to install. I checked eBay and due to Dodge selling these relocate kits apparently they got rid of all the pumps. I found a ton of Dodge lift pumps, brand new in the box for $75-$100 each. Next trip out it quit again, so I stopped at my friendly Diesel Shop and installed a FASS system and a gauge. I brought the truck home 350 miles with no trailer and the gauge said 21 psi all the way. Couple guys in front of me got playing around side by side and one guy stepped on his Trans Am. I was laying back at about 77 mph just watching and another lane opened up so I wound it up, jumped into the express lane, flew by both of them guys, glanced at the speedo and let off as she was approaching 95 mph. Sorry boys but you just got passed by a big red Dodge dually, smokin'. That was more stimulating than putting my tongue on a 9 volt battery.
