this is a long story but ill make it short as possible. i bought a 98 dodge diesel 2500 4x4 long box standard cab 5 speed. i bought it a month and a week ago. went straight to the shop cause it wouldnt even start after i signed the papers (good sign huh) they said they would fix it on their dime and it would go to the dodge dealer to be done, so i went along cause i got a good deal there on the price and my trade in. 2 weeks later and nothing, so i go back and they tell me that it needed a new ECM ($1800). so they put it in and then the other problem was the injection pump ($1500). but they didnt want to spend that much money on it till the owner of the company told them to do it. after getting the run around for a month or so, i finally have it back. i have a little lesson for the dealer i bought the truck from, dont mess with a redneck. my trade in (they didnt take it till i got my dodge) is sitting in their competitors lot across the road. their loaner rig they gave me for 3 weeks ended up with about 2000 miles just a little bit of mud and sloppy cow **** on their loaner and they put about 4 grand into the truck that they paid for, and i got my warranty extended from the warranty company (seperate from the dealer) to start today when i was finally able to take posession of it. but the first thing i did when i got it home was put my towrig.com sticker and my west coast redneck sticker on my back window
Why did they change the ECM? It was very likely JUST the VP44 all along. Sounds like you came out pretty good.
the wait to start light wouldnt come on and the pickup pump wasnt getting power. they put the old ECM back in after it ran fine with the new injection pump and it would start and run but it was throwing a map sensor code, and 2 others. so they put the new one BACK in and it was all good. no codes, everything has power.
truck is still running strong, got a guy who builds bumpers, flatbeds, and trannys . hes building me a winch bumper and shooting it with bedliner for $600 ill post up a pic or two when i get it on.
