Anyone running one? I'm looking at the Gear Vendors unit. This will give me a 5th gear + another OD gear to get the rpm's down when cruising. My RPM's are high because of the 4.10 axle gears. Plus it will give a gear inbetween all the other gears to keep me in my power band. I always seem to need a gear between 3rd and 4th on grades.

Depending on the OD ratio of a given unit but I would venture to say you could pretty much leave it in OD all the time, you'd probably like the performance of it geared slightly higher.

once you map out the ratio it'll work great when loaded heavy and pulling big hills. When m'ty like RJ said just leave it OD so you can pull each gear longer. Many a time when jockeying for postion I've wound a gear out in my 15 speed and skipped a gear so I can pass another truck. When m'ty the longer you can pull each gear the longer you have the turbo spooled up and are putting the power down.

Ok so now I'm going to setup a paypal account will start taking donations for the $2700 unit!!! I didn't know they were that pricey

Time to start searching for an HD planetary setup in the right ratio and start milling out a case for it :D

You have a long bed with plenty of driveshaft lenght. Look for a used remote mount one to go between the rear yoke and the carrier bearing. For a OD unit that will only work in 2wd a used universal unit should cut the price down by 50-70%.

Thats is exactly what I want to do with the one that I have. It came off the back of a 480LE GM trans.
It even has a parking brake setup on it but I need to have "SOMEONE" machine the input for a 1410 yoke so it can be remote mounted.

Crap! A gear swap to a set of 3.73's would be my plan.

You still have that nasty split between 3rd and 4th gear which the over/under drive would take care of.

The dead spot would be worse with taller gears...
