Hello all, I plan on getting a 96 f350 4x4, 7.3 for a DD/ tow rig for my 89 burb (soon to be buggy). I found a place in LA that sells ex-fleet vehicals. They have several to choose from f250/350,reg cab, 4x4, diesels under 150,000 mi, less than $9999 sticker prices. What should I check or look at on these trucks to get a good deal. Thanks
Put your wallet down and walk away from the truck A friend of mine wanted to haul cars like I was. He asked what truck to buy and I said a 24v CTD like mine. He found a 97 7.3, one owner, low miles in excellent condition, paid about half the price of a used truck like mine and thought he had made one hell of a deal. First trip out he hauled a couple cars across a couple states and hauled something back home. I didn't hear from him for awhile. Next time we talked, we live 4 states from each other, he was again asking about my truck. Shortly after he bought one like mine with a 5 spd, switched to a 3 car trailer and started hauling. When I inquired about the Ford, he said he sold it. Terrible mileage, no power, anytime he slowed down it took forever to get back up to speed, on and on. He has had maintenance on the Dodge as I have but we both bought trucks with close to 200k on them. But either one of these Dodges is ten times better than that Ford.
hey man buy the 7.3 it is a great truck i have a f-250 and it tows everything i want i pulled 3500 pounds worth of blcok in the bed then about 9,000 pounds worth of bobcat on a trailer, it is a great truck sounds like that guy jsut had some trouble. i haven't ever hear of these trucks ever having real expensive problems. mine has around 95000 miles and does great. i have seen one with 400,000 miles do great too. a stock cimmins is no better than a stock powerstroke. they are both great, i personally like the powerstorke and ford so if you like it buy it i got mine for a deal with really low miles i paid 10,000 i can sell it now for 14,000, so go for it sounds like a good deal
