    OK, wireless people, whats the best wireless router etc. want to go wireless

    I don't know about being the best but I use D-Link at my house..seams to work fine. Sometimes the signal take a moment at startup but other than that I like it. waytogo

    About the only thing I know is to go for the G rated router, I think that is right due to problems with the c and d interfering with cordless phones etc.. :confused:

    I was gonna say anything but D-Link, I always have problems with D-Link gear.

    D-link is a company name.
    My co-worker bought D-link stuff and hated it. Mine has ben fine so just leave it...

    I have a Linksys Wireless G SRX Router. Works great and setup was easy. It was pricey, but with needing a signal across a few floors and far away, it has been great and worth the money IMO.

    Best entry/lower-mid level router for the money is going to most likely be LinkSys IMO (hows that for a hedge). That's what I use. Nice config support and fairly stable.

    But, you have some good, some bad, in any of them.

    I've been using the Linksys 2.4 GHz Wireless Router for about 15-18 months. Love it. Haven't had any problems with it at all. I'd recommend it. You can get it at Sams w/ a 802.11 card fairly cheap.

    OK, can I hook up an external hard drive to the router so I can share between wireless computers or do I need a network card?

    I don't know of any stand alone enclosures that directly support network connectivity. That's pretty much just printers only as far as I know. You're going to have to put it in a computer and share the drive, or get an external USB2 enclosure and hook it to your computer and share the drive, or something along those lines. Frankly, for best performance, particularly shared, you'll want to mount it PATA or SATA inside your main computer (or whatever needs the best access) and share it to the satellites from there. Network access to a shared drive is going to be WAY slower on even the fastest wireless connections as opposed to even a typical (usually USB2)external drive, which in turn is slower than an internal mounted drive.

    I have a desktop on Win XP & a Laptop on Win 2K. Via the wireless router, I am able to share the printer & hard drives. I set ip up that way so that I can have my laptop anywhere in the house & be able to do anything, access anything, and print without going to the office. Works awesome waytogo

    I use Linksys stuff and really am happy with it's performance... G (54mpbs) is the standard now. Don't settle for anything less.
