Ok so I ain't never smoked the tires yet. I am on deck to getting a new set..so I said Self, Smoke thease suckers before you replace them:doah: waytogo I assume hold the brake and climb up the RPM...So what does that do to the rear brakes? Heat um up a bit I would guess? Is there a 'right way' to do a brake stand with a diesel truck? So thoes who have actually done this ...do tell opcorn: waytogo opcorn:
Left foot on brake, right foot firmly sandwiching pedal between foot and floor. Once they're spinning, regulate speed with left foot, RPMs with right foot. The dmax will probably start shifting gears if you leave the pedal to the metal.rotfl If you really want to do it right, put tire chocks in front of the front tires, once the rears are spinning they won't have enough traction to get the fronts to jump the chocks, that way you don't have to keep your foot on the brake. I think that's how they do it in burn out contests. That should get it done. Make sure you get video.waytogo I don't know if your truck has traction control, but those systems can mess with doing proper brakestands. burnout
Cool, thanks Shaggwaytogo Should be interesting to try anyway..guess I'll find out hehehheeburnout burnout burnout burnout burnout burnout burnout burnout burnout burnout
My truck doesnt have the power of the D-max but so I have to do this: 0) Make sure truck is in 2-hi ( unless in snow ) 1) put left foot on brake 2) shift to 1st gear (not required but keeps truck from upshifting) 2.5) have videographer start rolling tape 3) lay the Go pedal DEEP into the carpet 4) Spool turbo up to max boost 5) take a little pressure off of brake to move truck foward ~10 feet 6) apply more pressure to brake pedal to stop truck 7) moving the truck foward gets the back tires to turn and then when you stop the truck the tires are already spinning so they start to spin faster and make smoke and yummy smells 8) have photographer snap pics like crazy!! 9) bake the tires like crazy!!! burnout 10) when satisfied stop truck and go and admire your artwork 11) try to keep from wetting your pants from all of the laughing that you and your audience will be doing. 12) wipe silly grin off of your face before you get home and the wife gets suspicious ("why do you need new tires on your brand new truck Joe??") ("uhhhhhhh you look great dear!!") There is my technique for doing a proper burnout. Want me to write an article Steve???imp:
My 12v does brakestands just fine, even totally stock. Just mash the brake pedal and roll on the throttle. It takes a good 7 or 8 seconds to build the required boost, but after that, game on! My rear tires prolly have half the tread of the fronts, mostly do to brake stands. :doah:rotflI did one awhile back at work, accross the street and down the road a bit- prolly 100yards from the shop. Co-worker was inside at the back of the shop balancing driveshaft, and said all he could hear was a really loud whistling noise, couldn't hear the tires or the engine, just the whistling of the turbo. Sweet music to my ears. BTW Steve- If you do this and don't get video, you'll never be forgiven. waytogorotfl
So depal is suppose to be pedal...I thought my pelling was bad hahaha:stir: Flogged? What is that?:doah:
You have to hold the gas and brake with the right then let up the clutch with the left while moving the left to the brake while increasing the go pedal then hammer down . You guy' with the auto's have got it made.rotfl
"Brake stands" or "stalled launches" or several other terms are used to refer to that technique. And yes, it is very hard on a transmission, even an Allison. I've only done it a couple times (as in 2) combined with 4 wheel drive launches just to show out a bit (ever seen a 7500lb crew cab do a 4 wheel burn out?) but it scares me. I've got something like 30k miles with the Edge/Attitude mostly on "level 4" (of 5) and so far the Allis still holds up. Still got my eye on an ATS upgrade eventually as soon as my luck improves enough that I can save some money and commit to getting it done...
