What do you guys do for health insurance? I just got told by my union local that once I leave the company - even if I make the payments myself and even if I stay an active member and maintain the dues - after 9 months I will not have nor be eligible for union insurance again. I contacted OOIDA and they wanted $3000.00 per MONTH for health insurance AND it was not all that great, in fact my union ins. was WAY better!! And it was only $2200 every THREE months. OOIDA refused to cover 3 of the kid's asthma because it is considered 'pre existing'
Health insurance is a problem. I used Unicare. They will do the same and hit you with all kinds of pre-existing exclusions. My wife has since gone back to work so we now get it that way, but even so the coverage stinks. By time my collar bone heals I will have about $6000 out of my pocket, her company will have $3000 in deductible that they paid. To get good coverage that puts you at no risk costs more than most can afford.
I used to pay for my health insurance at about $500.00 a month. Which wasn't all that great. Now all I have is emergency ins., if its a emergency for wife, child or myself. $120.00 a month $1500.00 copay. I take the other $380.00 that I used to pay and put it into an account by itself. After a while you have quite a bit saved up and use this to pay for doctor, dentist and chiropractic visits. It works for my family, although we do not go to the doctors very often. We have saved about $3000.00 this year alone and that is more than enough to cover our copay (if the need should arise) and a few doctor's visits. Kind've like being your own ins. company only you make interest on the money that is in the bank. If you do this for a few years you will have plenty of money for anything that arises. I have a friend who told me to do this as he has done it for years. Just a suggestion that works for me, everyone's situation is different however.
$500.00 a month? OOIDA wants over $3000.00 a month! :doah:I have 3 kids with asthma and would be denied due to 'pre existing' clause. I have another that likes sports....ALOT and gets injured often. What company did you go with for $500?
I googled 'health insurance' last night and was surprised at all the different companies that you can pick through. I entered ALL 6 kids info plus me and wife's and one place offered ins for around $550 per month. Didn't check what dental or vision would be yet (my fingers were cramping ) . It was Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois.
I went threw Nase & Base. Also my wife, child and I didn't have any preexisting illnesses. We are also 29 & 30 years of age. This insurance is that we had was a very good one but has a serious screening program. Be careful with B. Cross & B. Shield they have alot of promises and they are not always the best guy to go with. Sometimes smaller company's that work with a group of business owners are the best. Keep searching and interview alot of company's. Good Luck!
Thanks. Now were tossin the idea of just haulin during the winter months (Nov - May) and staying with Plote the rest of time for home time and the ins. - who knows.
