There have been several for sale in my area with 200-250K on them still selling for a pretty high price.

I have heard about a few getting to 300K and still run fine. I would imagine their life is about the same as both the PSD's, or close to it.

I noticed that you only stated that would have the same life as the PSD's and not the cummins....why? :stir:

So which are you comparing the DMax to , the 7.3 or the 6.0?

The reason i ask, is because they both, 7.3 and 6.0, have different life lines.

i think that the dmax will last quite a long time... if you keep all the fluids and filters changed when they're supposed to be then it will last for at least 200k i would think... oh and i dont think that any one brand will last significantly longer then the other they are all great motors and will last forever if you take care of them.

Here we go again. I didn't mention the Cummins because I figured it was a given that it lasts longer than the other engines.

I was comparing the Dmax to both the PSD's. I've heard they are both supposed to last in the 3-500,000 range.

It doesn't matter though, the average truck owner will never wear out either of the 4 engines.

I find myself laughing all through the house after the last couple of posts. I will no longer attempt to say which will last the longest because it will never end. Like you said Red, Most folks will never know anyways

    have a good one :)

if you think about it none of the big three designed or built their deisel engines so their diesels say nothing about the company itself, everybody swears by the cummins because they think that any engine made by cummins is the greatest ever. but both the duramax and powerstroke are good engines the only one out of the bunch that is lacking is the powerstroke because it has hydraulic lifters or the 7.3 did not sure on the 6.0 but you cant put a exhaust brake on it.

    Your right, No Jake

    From the JakeBrake site:

Do you make a product for the Ford 7.3L Powerstroke or Navistar International T444E engines?

    ANSWER:

No, Jacobs does not offer an exhaust or engine brake for these engines in fact, Navistar and Ford have requested that we do not develop one for these engines.
The primary concern with putting a retarder on these engines is their use of hydraulic lifters. Most engines with hydraulic lifters have fairly low exhaust back pressure limits so the performance of an exhaust brake would not be substantial. More importantly the use of an exhaust brake on an engine with hydraulic lifters can cause engine damage. The problem is that the increased back pressure resulting from the operation of the exhaust brake will cause some degree of valve float. This valve float can cause the hydraulic lifter to re-set with the valve still open (not seated). This phenomenon is known as lifter jacking. Lifter jacking could also result if a traditional engine brake were used on these engines. The results of lifter jacking can be anything from low positive power (because the valves stay open) to engine damage caused by valve to piston contact.
