How often does the manual say the Allison should have the fluid/filter replaced? I didn't read my manual and I think the service guy at the dealer may have took me for a fool and had me do extra service that wasn't required. :doah: I guess that's what I am since I didn't look it up ahead of time.
If your talking about the small external spin on filter, it does need to be changed somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 miles. I change mine every time I change my oil, their cheap and easy to do. May as well, keep your tranny fluid clean and cool means longer life!!!!waytogo
I had the fluid & external filter changed after the first 2500 miles...then did it again around 20K miles...the last time was about 55K and I replaced the external & internal filter (had GM doit while it was in for my throttle position sensor crappin out on me)...I don't plan on touching it for a while. I never read the manual so this is just how I did it..
I highly recommend changing the external filter everytime you change your oil. Or every other time you change your oil. They are cheap and easy to replace, they keep the oil cleaner, and if your filter is old and starts to plug up, your tranny runs hotter!
Good advise and your right it is easy...even easier than the oil fliter waytogo Do you think the fluild you loose warrents adding any or just spin on a new one and runit?
Sounds like a good time to check the level and make sure its not low or anything. i would change it every Oil change. As far as I see it, you would only have to drop the pan if the fluid is old and getting wore out. The spin on should catch all most all the debries. Also, there are better filters available as replacements for the spin on. i have to find the part number, but I know Donaldson makes a filter that filters much smaller particals out of the system. I'll see if I can find it.
I always fill the new filter with fluid before I put it back on. Just keep an eye on the fluid level.waytogo
what about the internal? it sees the debry first, before the spin on, and people rarely change them...............
when I was working in the quick lube industry the claim was 50K from GM and just a flush at that I wouldnt really trust that number or even do it
