So i really hate writing about this for many reasons, put yourself in my shoes and you will undertsand.
    heres the issue:

i have an '07 classic chevy w/ duramax/allison. i bought it brand new. it currently has just 12,000 miles. well about a month ago me and my father(cat mechanic of 31 yrs) heard a faint knock in the engine compartment right after startup. drove a quarter mile and it went away. well i heard it on startup every couple days or so. well a few days ago it came back with a vengence, knocking at low rpms. it gets louder under a load. too it to dealership today. didnt throw any codes, line pressures were fine, injectors were fine. they are calling chevrolet tomorrow to see if its a recurring problem.

my thoughts: without it telling the computer whats wrong, i think its in the metal, like a rod, piston, wristpin slap, who knows.

    anybody have any thoughts? ideas?

update: well the dealership called today to inform me that chevrolet hasnt heard of this before. so come friday they will perform every diagnosis under the sun, if they dont catch it, they are going to start digging :doah: i really hate to think of them putting a bandaid on a brand new engine, or even a reman inside a brand new pickup(if it comes to that). can i deman a new pickup? lemon law? any advice?

That sucks, I bet they say something like, drive it till it breaks then we can fix it. Good luck, I hope they find the issue.

update: today they think they found the issue. the #1 injector isnt running high enough kpsi. evidently they had another lbz in last week with the same knocking issue and couldnt put 2 and 2 together. anyways it takes a week to get the injector so im driving a loaner cobalt, ha. im hopeing this isnt going to become an inject issue on the lbz's like the lb7's.

finale: they put diesel fuel conditioner in the tank and ran it. noticed the knocking was subsiding. i have my pickup now with only the faintest of a knock. i figure i had some bad fuel that plugged up my line somewhere from the common rail forward. so it looks like im just going to have to run that conditioner ever few tanks. i hope that the end of it. hope you all enjoyed my novel as well.

i take it that the lack of replies was because you all were as stumped as i was. happy towing waytogo

Your doing better then my brother with his new 2007 4 x 4 allison duramax. He has had a driveline vibration since new, dealer couldn't seem to find the problem so he took it to a driveline specialist. They found the input shaft on the transfer case has 50 thousandth slop in it. Transfer case manufacturer rep says that is too much. Gm told him to live with it, they are not going to fix it unless the transfer case fails. So much for the warranty period to make everything right. Truck was also delivered with an out of round tire. He had to take that to A tire store to get it warrantied.

Does the click or tick come from the drivers side?
This problem has been talked about on another forum. It seems to be real common. Most people notice it right after their 1st oil change as i did.
Some say changing to a different oil helped or eliminated the tick.
    I just live with it.

actually yes, it came from the drivers side bank of the engine. to bring you all up to date. took it into the dealer here in grand junction, they didnt have a clue. i dont have time for another trip somewhere so i decided i would try to figure it out myself. lo and behold i started with the fuel filter(got a bunch of water out) :doah: . and as i started to take it off i saw it hadnt been off before(i could tell by factory tape on the water/fuel sensor off the bottom of the filter) whick means the dealer never took it off as they said they did  . so when i took it off it looked like it had been packed with wheel bearing grease(im imbellishing a bit) so i changed the filter, treated the fuel with conditioner and it runs like new. i think after all this i will do my own mechanicing on this pickup. im kinda tired of this whole plug in the damn computer and unless it says something is wrong we wont fix it bullcrap from the dealers.

i loaded up about 7000# in trailer and atv's on sunday and couldnt be happier. its not much weight i know but i couldnt even tell the thing was behind me waytogo

    Injector Knock

I had a little trouble with my LLY injectors and got to thinking. Low-Sulphur fuel. Sulphur was originally added for injector lubrication. I was talking to a buddy about his I-H having that problem. He needs that truck to run to make money, not keep I-H replacing injectors. When the trucks are new, He added Diesel Service to break in injectors, and adds it occasionally after 50K. I started running DS(Wal-Mart has it) and no more injector rattle. I really think this is a problem the OEM's aren't going to solve. Injector's need extra fuel lube for the extremely tight clearances all diesels need.
