So my clutch failed last weekend while I was up in the desert. I decided to throw in a Southbend OFE so I won't have to worry about it breaking again. The clutch is slightly grabby (but so is any performance clutch) but, because of the heavy duty hydraulics, it is actually easier to push the pedal in than stock. It is also easier to row through the gears now because I had the trans. guy service the trans. and fill it with synthetic lube. Overall, I am very impressed with the feel of the Southbend Clutch; not to mention I am happy that I can safely use level 5 on my edge comp nowimp: . Thanks again to Jason at www.dieselnutmotorsports.com for the parts and excellent customer service as well as ABE Transmission and Gear in Santa Clarita, CA for the installation.
I have also installed a Southbend Clutch in February. The one I recieved made a matalic knocking noise when the clutch pedal was out. Once the clutch was depressed, the noise went away. I was told the transmission input shaft bearing was bad. Don't think so. The shop that put the Southbend in had the transmission looked at, disassembled down to parade rest, and could not find anything wrong with the NV5600. All the bearings were good, some of the bearing races had a little hazzing. I bought all the new stuff to put it back together and the guys who said the input shaft bearing was bad ate about 1000 dollars in labor. Tranny had 185,000 on it. The vendor who sold me the clutch sent another one. It was installed and guess what, no more noise. The 13" clutch really picks up the load better than the stock clutch being much bigger in surface area. The tranny is still shifting like it did when I first got the truck. I guess it will wear in, in the near future. Got a year of warranty with the tear down and rebuild. Had to replace 6th gear. It showed some discoloration. Tranny guy told be to quit resting my hand on the shift lever. I took some pics of the bearings and housing. I think I will need to reduce the size of the pics before posting them. Dave
Yup. All NV5600's need 2 qts over stock. Total fill should be 6 qts. Your trans with last much longer.
