After 6 months of planning and shopping around, a few weeks of spending too much money, and countless nights of dreaming the FordCummins project has finally materialized. I got the PSD pulled out of my 99 F350 last night, and the 6bt is going back together tomorrow, and going into the truck early next week. I will have pics to post later on this evening. The motor will be assembled with marine pistons matched to 370 injectors. 191 delivery valves, fire rings in the block from Scheid Diesel, #10 fuel plate from Piers. 4k RPM governor kit from TST products, a BD power Super B turbo wastegated top 45 psi and a 4" downpipe to 5" exhaust. With some fine tuning of the fuel plate I should be at 450hp. The ZF6 tranny is getting a CON FE South Bend Clutch good for 600hp. A bit of machining at SBC allowed the Ford clutch to mate to the Cummins flywheel. I will post pics and progress in the next few days. I am in a rush to get this done because I have to be out of my shop in 3 weeks.......Im hoping I can have it done by next Friday night. Time will tell.......
Here are some pics. Another hour of work and the motor will be ready to drop in the truck. Motor was assembled with a fire ringed block, Scheid's 12mm head studs, marine spec pistons, 370 injectors, #10 fuel plate, 191 delivery valves, ATS 3 piece exhaust manifold and BD Super B turbo. Not too much to look at now, but the fun stuff will be starting tomorrow.
Haha, its rated for 2000 lbs, but then again it is from Harbor Freight Tough to say what it will really hold. Is it stable? Yes. Does it shake a bit when you hang stuff off of the front of the motor? Yes. I suppose thats just more motivation for me to work faster and get it in the truck
Remember what everyone says about projects like these, "They always take twice as long and cost three times as much". Man I wish I lived close enough to lend a hand. Keep up with the pictures waytogo .
The motor is in, bolted up to the ZF6 and it sure fits sweet. I will have pics tomorrow. Everything slid together like it was meant to be, and the amount of room I have to work with is awesome compared to the old V8 that was in there. I should be hearing the sweet sound of an I6 tomorrow.
Definantly, the Duramax and PSD are squeezed in there vs. the Dodges that have all kinds of room under the hood thanks to having only 6 cylinders.
Got the ol 12V to light off today. Sure sounded sweet to hear that turbo spinnin with no intake or exhaust on it yet Anyway, the front of the truck is getting buttoned up tomorrow, and the final touches are being put on the motor and drivetrain, and itll be ready to go for its first run. If it wasnt for a few minor delays in engine parts, Id be done with this deal by now. Ive only got 5 days into the conversion, and 4 into building the motor. I guess thats the way it goes, I gotta get down to the shop with my camera and get some more pics, but a pic of an engine isnt much good, Ill get the good ones in the next few days........by good I mean smoke rollin out of the 5" pipe imp:
