I am getting ready to instal the TxC CAI for the Duramax. From what I have seen so far, at my power levels for now it is one of the better choices. It seals off the factory box to help pull outside air. I was kicking around the Volant and the Banks set ups w/Ram Air.
K&N seems to be like a very good product. There only like $200 to $400 and can add a good 20 or 30 horsepower and some good torque numbers.
ive got a air raid on mine, the price wasnt bad when i got it a cpl years ago, it was between the air raid and the afe and the air raid was a lil cheaper. dotn know if there is any difference besides teh afe from what ive read is a lil louder wiht the turbo whine
BHAF with a home made shield.....because it's CHEAP. What can I say, I'm pungently frugal...rotfl Seriously, I also wanted a filter that filters, not a K&N. I'm in dustier conditions than almost everyone else.
1) The BHAF is good because its cheap and it does filter better than an oiled cotton filter. 2) I have seen a K&N intake on a cummins and it looked sweet (looked like it all fit nice). 3) I have owned an AIRAID and it was cheap but offered little to no power gains (or at least none that I noticed compared to the chip, but then again I'm not sure any intake will give noticable power gains on a truck that has that much power).
from what i read in diesel power a while back just about all the intakes are the same power wise and airflow wise
Im running a K&N on my 99 Chevy gasser and have no complaints. You can definetly hear it sucking air around 2000 rpm, especially in the higher gears.
S&B filters just came out with a new intake system and it's not expensive and it seems to work really well.
My plan when my Donoldson BHAF needs replacing to use an Amsoil Nanofiber filter. They are a dry filter, flow more air than a BHAF (less than a K&N style, but because it actually filters), and can be blown out with air and reused!
aFe Stage 2, only because that was what was on it when I bought the truck. I might change it down the road, but I don't need to right now, so I don't know what I'd put on instead...
Never heard of that one. I am looking at the Banks, does anybody have it or know of anybody that does?
I'd say it's truck dependent. My 05 F250 V10 has a stock setup that takes in air from the front of the grill so it's already a cold air intake. If your sucking in hot air from behind the radiator, then a cold air may help. On an side note about after market filter/kits, on my 2000 Lightning (now sold), I put an CA kit on it and it lost HP and TQ across the board (dynojet) over the stock setup with airbox drawing air in from the fender. Sounded much better though with aftermarket setup, the blower really makes some noise.... Side note 2, I had a 01 Mustang GT that also lost HP an TQ across the board (dynojet) with a CA kit over the stock air box drawing air from the fender. Both of these were using stock filters on the stock setup with K&N on the aftermarket setup. Most auto manufactures do their homework on the engines including the intake setup. Sure you will here more noise with an open filter/CA setup but that doesn't equal power. YMMV
i installed the K&N, its user friendly, easy to clean, and the chrome accents look good(when clean) I originally ordered the AEM, but after 3 months of waiting and than to be told they had not even made it yet, i told the to stick it !!!!! opcorn:
running stock filter with the zoo dad mod, my conditions are to dusty for cotton filters, wet or dry.
