What are some of the characteristics of the hotrod VP44? I have heard lopey idles among other things. How much power increase over a stock pump? Does it fuel differently? And....if and when my stock pump goes (original with 125K and no signs of weakness) how well will it work with my Juice? I have heard the Comps (the juice too I would assume) doesn't deliver the power like it does with a stocker.
No one has replied, so I might as well chime in. I don't know much about the HRVP44's, but I've read they add something like 80 hp. That in itself is pretty sweet.
I installed one on a buddies truck about a year ago and he is in love with it. With just a HRVP44 and 275 RV injectors he makes 300hp with 4.10 gears! Mileage didn't change, up or down, but throttle response and power got much better. As for the difference, they have much more durable electronics in them so you don't have the overheating problems that the stockers have. Most lift pump failures aren't so much mechanical as the are electrical. The electronics in the pump that regulate and control it literally overheat and melt or burn up. The HR pumps are less suseptable to this. Not saying you can't hurt one, but its just a little harder. Otherwise, same stuff applies. Not more than 18psi , not less than 10psi from the lift pump and keep the filter clean, run a fuel lubricant (like Amsoil) to help keep the heat down with the new fuel coming out. We'll know more first hand on the power with electronic upgrades when I sell Brandon his Smarty. Then we'll see what kind of power he throws. I figure he should be in the 375 range. Pretty respectable.
I just wanted to chime in on this one. I did a dyno before and after on a stock injection pump VS a Industrial injection hot rod pump. (IIHRVP) I best thing about it is the throttle response, its like driving around with the power box on high power all the time, but its off. With a stock pump, 90 hp injectors, and a sps 62 turbo i made 293.75 hp and 610 ft of torque. With the IIHRVP, 90 hp injectors, and a sps 62 turbo I made 442.54 HP and 887.61 Ft of torque. Note the only change was just the vp44 injection pump. The gain was 148.75 HP and 276 FT of torque with just the hot rod vp When i turned on my EDGE comp on 5X5 i made 534.91 HP and 1085.19 FT of torque. Just my .02
Yeah, impressive numbers. Do you notice that after the Hot Rod pump that your Comp feels less effective than with the stocker? I now am a little interested in some of these new Race VP44's that are coming out. Supposed to be a Stage 1, 2, 3 and are along the lines of the high dollar P7100 race pumps.
Those that want a mild mannered, smooth idle need not apply. These pumps are just that - RACE pumps, and they are obnoxious. However, they fuel like nothing else!
The idle on my HRVP is starting to wear a little thin on me....but I'm putting my p-pumped 12v in the truck anyways so I'll be fine. But I hear the new "monster VP" is supposed to have a smooth idle unlit the HRVPs...........true or not....I don't know. Thats just what I've read.
I've read the Stage 2 lopes pretty good, and I'm sure stage 3 is even more extreme. I am interested in a stage 1 and weather it lopes and what it's habbits are. Also, what kind of power difference there is.
When i dynoed on a stock pump with box on and then dynoed HRVP with box on there is not much difference. I think it was 10 hp 50 ft tq. But with the box off for driveabilty you cant beat it.. I have heard of these monster VP44 pumps but have yet to see one in action. I have to see to believe personally. At idle my HRVP don't have a lope, but bring it to 1000 rpms you can hear it good.... Any one in the Twin cites, MN have a monster VP44?????? Would like to see one in action...
