Ok fellas I would like to type about how you all load up. Let's say you want to leave for your road trip around 6am. Would you load your toy onto the trailer, fill your towrig with all your gear/beer, get everything loaded up. Wake up at 5:30 and be gone by 6. Keep in mind all this gear and everything is sitting outside in the dark all alone and scared. or Get everything ready for the raod trip on the garage floor, wake up at 4:30am pack the towrig, hook up the trailer, roll on your favorite toy, stap it down and head out by 6. No body has to be alone in the dark for sociteties scum of the earth to go piliging tru your gear/beer imp: I'm board so dreamed up this topic, if you too want to avoid work please tell me how you pack up. What items do find usefull for road trip towing adventures? Burt
Load everything up on the trailer, hook it up to the tow rig then park the whole deal in the backyard behind the locked gate. Open gate in the morning and drive off (closing gate behind me).
Ya I load up as early as possible to make the day of leaving as painless as possible. I don;t have to worry about my junk sitting in an area where I worry about somthing gettng taken. I live in a small town and store the buggy on the families property that is kinda in the country so very little chance of bad stuff to the trailer and buggy. I would have the coolers and such sitting in garage and ready to go. doesn't take to long to load the bed of a truck with all of the junk to go fora few days. Maybe go ahead and load up the trailer and just park inbetween a few vehicles to block it in and make it hard to get anything of any size very far.
I have had some issues around the hood with people going thru unlocked cars so I am not sure about leaving my stuff outside. I probly won't sleep verywell always peeking out the window. That is a good Idea to load up some stuff the night before , like firewood is a good one. My K5 sits in the garage and the trailer is on the far side of the driveway. I want to load it up the night before but....I hate my hood. Someday I will get out of the damn city and back to the country were I belong. Well I can always load up the K5 @ 5am and wake everyone up imp: naaa my new exhaust is quite as long as I don't RAAATTT on it waytogo
I always load up the night before, then take the whole operation for a ride to the fuel station to fill up. That way I can make sure I am balanced well, and there are no problems with the tow rig or trailer. Then I can wake up at 5:55, roll out of bed, and into the tow rig.
I load everything up except for the ice in the cooler the night before. Wake up, dump the bag of ice or two in the cooler, and head out.
Last trip i went on i loaded the truck and placed all of my straps, then had all the other stuff on the garage floor, woke up tightened all my straps double checked the connections then loaded up the back of the tow rig, took about 30 minutes and i had to get me son dreesed too.
Well, I haven't towed my K5 before but I plan on getting everything ready the night before. What I have done a lot is gone snowmobiling. It's basically the same idea, you've got a trailer, bunch of gear, and multiple snowmobiles instead of a 4x4. The advantage with snowmobiles is that everything sits in an enclosed trailer and is locked up all the time. Burt, For BF, if you plan on leaving really early you might be able to just drop off your trailer at my ranch and then come back and get it early the next morning and we head out. It would save having to load the K5 in the morning but I don't know how much time it would save. I live on a ranch out in the country and feel things are fairly secure.
Cool Thanks fellas, Ya I have to get my son's lazy butt outa the bed to I realy like the run to the fuel station senario waytogo Thing is the bed of my chevy will be FILLED with gear if I have it all hooked up. My driveway has a med slant to it and I'm not sure about backing my loaded trailer into the driveway and disconnecting, parking my diesel next to it...then open the garage door toss all the gear in the bed..pull out hook up and jam on....But my rig will still be outside..no hard top...hmmmm
Last time I went wheeling, I hooked up the tow bar (flat towed) to the jeep, and the jeep to the truck the night before, got everything loaded up except the ice chest.. Drove to the filling station, filled up the jeep and tow rig, then came home and went to sleep. threw two bags of ice in the ice chest with the beer in it the next morning, and headed out. Scott
Hey Bobby, yer post snuck inthere and I didn't see it earlier... Ya seams like alot a back-n-forth. Hell it doesn't take much noise to get it up there. I already have a plan were to put it. I leave on Friday for Pismo, the dog,me my boy & his buddy...Caint wait to finally get away waytogo waytogo
I usually load the jeep on the trailer, tie it down, and then load everything that doesnt have much value (firewood), go gas up, and pile everything else in the Garage or entryway in the house. Wake up around 5:30 load the truck while the girls load the cooler, check all the tie-downs and trailer connections and then hit the road at 6. -Brent
I'm packed and ready to go 2 days early It's nice to live in an area where we can just leave the trucks doors unlocked and the key in the ignition for all our work vehicles. That way when an employee needs one he can just hop in and go. And in 30 years we have never had anyone but an employee 'just hop in and go'. Course this town also has rumors of a crazy fat man (my boss/pop in law/neighbor) on the hill with an arsenal that shoots first and asks questions later. This cemetery has also never been vandalized. There's something to be said for reputation.
i get 'er thing ready the night before...then hem-haw around till just past midnight and take a night drive.Sleep in the truck after i am there
