Depnds on the mods you will do to the truck. Some guys just add a straight pipe where the cat and muffler go. It does free up power. Some guys dont' even bother with after market.

I liked the Banks Monster exhaust I purchased for my diesel, until I had to deal with their customer service! The weld on the forward end of the muffler was bad and cracked all the way around at the bead. I had to pay to have them send me a new one - that they screwed up building! The only reason I paid the $63 shipping is because that was cheaper than buying a new system.
Just make sure you go with a company that will stand behind it's product, not hide behind it.

My truck is (was) new so I went with the cat-back system to avoid any warranty issues with the dealership.
Extremely easy to install. I took a suggestion out of the instruction sheet and cut the OEM system in half just behind the muffler.

I say get a Banks or Borla Cat Back if you only wanted a muffler I would say Flowmaster.

I vote for a 3.5' downpipe w/ a 4' straight pip. No cats or mufflers. You'll love the sound.

MBRP is my primary suplier as their prices are good and they stand behind their products. Good company to work with. Thats the kit I would have recommended.
