melling oil pumps

    for those of you with the small block chevy's, apparently in 2006 melling made a change to the original line of pumps making the castings thinner causing them to break while under high rpm usage or under high load usage. if you have had your engine rebuilt since then you may want to pull your pan to see which unit has been installed. if you have the m55 you could have an issue if it has a 5digit number it is the older casting design. I dont know if there has been a recall on those pumps but melling has started inserting leaflets in the boxes stating they should not be run above 5000 rpm's or in high performance applications.
