I purchased my truck with a 2yr/24k warranty. It basically stated that my warranty is void if the damage is caused by things that the original manufacturers warranty wouldn't cover. What power mods can I do to a 98.5 24V Cummins that won't void the warranty? I do have to pass emissions in my county but not for long. Will a BHAF void the warranty? Will a straight pipe void the warranty? Is there anything I can do that won't void the warranty? Thanks Harley
when you start modding a truck for the most part you are your own warranty station. things like intake and exhaust can normaly be gotten away with. crank sensors, boxes, fuel plates and pumps tend to not fly. turbos are iffy. you can get stock looking injectors and turbos that flow more but that is a gamble. You are in the same EXACT boat I am. I bought my truck with a 2yr/24K warranty, my drivetrain and everything associated to the engine is still stock. Whats that tell you? Read your service contract closely. I can have a "perfromance exhaust" and up to a 6" lift kit installed and it won't effect the warranty. I can't remember on the intake stuff, but I'd think a filter kit shouldn't be a problem. Be carefull though, they love to find SOMETHING and stick it to you, thats why mine is still stock. No chance of them screwing me on even more stuff. Boxes are out of the question. Even if you unplug it, the info that the fueling and boost has been modified is still stored in the ECM and they can dig it up if they are percistant enough. I hate to say it my friend, but learn to enjoy your truck as stock, because it's probably going to have to pretty much stay that way.:doah: I'm getting close on mine, 5.5K away from the 24K and I'm lookind at the new EDGE Juice/A2 monitor that will be coming out.waytogo
You should be able to do mild mods with no trouble. Injectors they cannot find unless they remove them and bench test them for flow (my money says they don't have a injector bench tester). Unless you get EDMs, they are factory injectors that have been honed out. An Edge EZ or the like you should have no problems with. 2 plugs, 2 minutes and its gone and no one knows or can find out. Now, more involved boxes like the Edge Comp or Drag Comp actually pierce a pump wire causing a permant wound that is easily identified. Exhaust is a non issue. There is no reason other than Noise Pollution that they cansay anything. No worries there. As far as intake, get one that meets Cummins spec for cleaning effiecency, and I can't remeber what it is exactly, but both the AFE Progaurd 7 and the Amsoil drop in filters meet it. That should get yo started, PM if you need more info on anything!
Not neccessarely, Dodge and Cummins can pull info out of the ECM that shows fueling and boost changes, even if the truck drove in without the EZ and at stock power level.
ya i know a guy that used to be a mechanic at a dodge dealer. he told me to get the computer cleared before you bring it in because they can tell by some code if a chip has been installed.
Email from Edge Tech Support to me - Jason, The EZ module for the 1998.5-2002 Dodge Cummins ISB will not leave any info on the computer if completely removed. We connect after the computer and modify the information going to the engine, therefore we do not alter the factory programming. Also, this EZ module does not alter fuel pressure. The only way that some dealers may guess if you have a performance product is if you were to have a engine light for say overboost, and didn't clear the code before taking it to the dealer. Then they may question you if you have run a module, but it still does not prove there was a module there. If you have any further questions, let us know.
Well, I know you have a manual trans and I'm sure the clutch is not included in your contract since it's a wear item but I'm glad I didn't modify anything, because it payed off. I already got about $1500 out of my SC for miscelanious things but finally hit a big one, they are paying $2K-2,200 on my tranny, good investment when I payed 2,083 for the contract when I bought the truck. My point is try to not do much because it could pay off if you don't. Like maybe a VP44 or something. MY SC wanted to know if there was ANY modifications to the truck drivetrain, fuel, exhaust, and inductions wise and it was worth the 14 months of all stock to say "NOPE!"...and they had no way out.
