im looking into rebuilding my 6.5 turbo. can anyone teach me about internals, and injectors and stuf liek that? i want it to be powerful, maybee even race some hondas or something. i already have an 80 hp, 4 inch wide open exaust and a cone air fileter right on the turbo. thanks for any help.
First off, there isn't a chip available for the 6.5 that puts out a true 80hp, even if SSDS claims it does. That claim is almost as bad as the "40hp" injectors. Second, you have to as yourself how deep your pockets are. If you really want alot of power, you will be wanting 18:1 pistons, head studs, bigger turbo, intercooler, girdles, a gear drive would be a good idea, a 92mm pump and a computer that can fuel it, and of course trans modifications. And this is asuming that you dont have a bad block and need a replacement. Do you tow anything with this truck, or do you just want it to be fast?
thanks for the reply. i tow a bobcat on a regular basis, and ocasionally transport cars and trucks. but i wouldnt mind some speed. the motor is still running pretty strong, so i am just planning this for now, once i get enough info, i will start collecting parts. i had a vision of having new exaust manifolds made, and slapping a turbo on each side of the engine. is that even possible? i have pretty sufficient funds, so i want to do the right thing.
Yes, but its not really needed. A good crossover and downpipe with an HX-35 would work spectacular with 18:1 pistons, head studs, and a good block. With an intercooler as well, 20-25psi of boost would be not only atainable, but wouldnt toast your motor either. You could get away with a stock pump, but a 92mm would really bring it to life. If you have the funds, i would recomend giving Penninsular Diesel a call, and at least talk to them. They are very knowledgeable when it comes to big power 6.5's, and should be able to help you out. You may even end up with one of their 18:1 AMG Longblocks, which is definately not a bad thing.
