Figured someone of you might find this info from my reply to Shaggys thread on CK5 usefull. Link to the thread- http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129062 And my replies- #1- Hmm...Not that hard to find a trailer like you want Shaggy. This one is almost exactly what you want- It's a PJ trailer. There are a couple small differences from what you quoted. The ramps are a different style. Has 7k lb axles. It's 20' overall, 18' flat w/ 2' dovetail. The spare is mounted in the wrong spot for you. I don't like the Bulldog stlye hitch either. It's a pain in the ass to hitch and un-hitch. It didn't have any tie downs that I liked, so I added 6 big d-rings. It has crossmembers on 12" centers. 16" 8lug wheels that I can use on my tow rig if needed. It's wide enough that my 1 ton rig with 42's on 9" wide 4" BS rims fits between the fenders with alittle less than an inch clearance on either side. If I don't get it exactly centered when I drive on the trailer, the fenders will flex out of the way slightly.Having drive over fenders will be alot less forgiving. Fenders are removeable too, so I can take them off if I'm hauling something stupidly wide. My gramps bought it for something like $4500 IIRC. Got it at a trailer yard in either Reno, NV or Winnemuca, NV, can't remember which. If you want, I can get more detials- what he paid for it, and where exactly he bought it etc. #2 Talked to gramps about the trailer today. He got a way better deal on it than I originally thought. Only paid $3200 for it. Bought it at a place in Winnemucca, NV called Good Morning Furniture. And according to the pink slip it weighs 2500lbs and has just under 14k gvwr? I think thats the proper acronym. Anyways, I know it sounds odd for a furniture place to sell trailers, but I guess they have a pretty good selction of trailers in stock. The owner of the furniture place gets the trailers from his son who runs an actual trailer yard/dealer in Reno. Sounds like a pretty good thing for you guys that are searchin for the absolute best deal. They don't have a website but I did find a phone # 775-623-6200. If somone is interested in some kinda group buy, I can jam up there and pick up 2-3 trailers and bring them back for the cost of fuel. I'm about 4 hours away, so it's not far. For guys like Burt and Shaggy, this would cut your driving time by more than half. And if you needed any modifications to your trailer to make it how ya wanted, d-rings etc, I could do it at my place. $3200 for a trailer like this is about $1k less than what I figured. One of you guys should give them a call and see if that price is still good. I'd say theres a pretty good chance that that it is, gramps only bought the trailer like 8-9 months ago. If so, for those guys lookin to buy, I'd jump all over it.
Pretty sure thats exactly what this place is. Hey you could go get a lazy boy and something to haul it home on at the same place....rotflrotflI crack me up...
I'd be interested in a trailer like that, but I don't want 7k axles, only 5k so I can avoid needing a Class A license. Not quite ready to go on it, but will be very soon. I'd be interested to hear what kind of discount we could get on a few of them. Of all the people that could spot a good trailer I'd guess that Joe would be on of them.waytogo
You don't need a class a. It has the 9,999 stamped on it. Even thought it has the 7k axles. I just re-read what I wrote- I guess it sounded like I said the pink slip listed 14k gvw. Pink only listed unladen weight. You'd be fine with this trailer. When I worked at the trailer place, for awhile I did the stamping of the numbers on the tounges. Regardless of the capacity of the trailer, it got stamped with 9,999lbs to avoid the license issue. Neither me or my gramps has the A license. SO you don't need to wrry about that. Most any trailer that you would buy would be stamped like that.waytogo
And I'll be going down there as soon as I can find a place convienient and cheap to store a big trailer. That goose neck trailer of yours is exactly what I want, and the price fantastic. Undoubtedly higher now with steel prices, but those furniture stores must be doing something right.
