I have read some posts here that say that this year is not very good for towing....I found a 93 auto that I like....can I do ANYTHING to make the tranny good? I heard it will NOT lock up...can that be fixed? I really like this body style...I had an 05 that was just too much money at the time...I thought I had heard that the old ones you could get lots of miles out of them...please yell...thanks, Garth

There is a lot you can do. Can't make it lock up without a very involved swap, but you can make the stock transmission better.

The Getrag G360 in the first gens wasn't really known for its strength. I think you are in a pretty good spot with that 518. Here in the near future we may offer a lock up upgrade, but it will not be for the shade tree mechanic. We will be using our shop truck (91.5 intercooled 250) to build the kit.

put a lockup converter in it and put it on a magnetic switch and wire it through your brake lights so you can lock the converter with a button but when you tap the brakes it unlocks......it will take a little time but that is how im going to do my new 93 D350.......
