Hello, I'm looking to buy a new truck, I sell tractors ranging from 27hp to 114hp. Currently I use a 2001 Chevy 1500HD ( gas). Even though it’s a great truck it just has a hard time with hauling the larger tractors. This will be my first time owning a diesel and I need some honest and fair comments on which diesel to buy. Whichever one I do purchase I'm planning on having for a long time. I have researched a little and it looks as if I 'm deciding between the new Cummins 6.7 and the new duramax. I saw some statements that the Cummins gets better mpg. Is this true? ( due to it will be a large factor in the purchase ). Make of a truck really doesn’t matter along as I'm getting a durable diesel. Thanks for any comments I would really appreciate them!!!!

well I would go for an 06 or an 07 5.9 h/o Cummins dont know a hole lot about the new 6.7 and the new Power Stroke . rember the old / new 6.0 AND ALL The problems i would not buy a first run Motor thats just Me . I tow a 33 ft Travel trailer around 10 k lbs and no prob i get 19 mpg in cty 23 on hw and towing i get 15 mpg and will out pull any ford or chevy Inline 6 is the REAL DEAL.but they will all pull what you want .Its just more what you like and is comfortable on wallet and BUT . the Dodge has a 5k rebait going on rte now Just FYI. good luck F/P

if i were you i would try and get into a 5.9 cummins. in my opinion its the most proven reliable diesel out there, i got a 91 with 339,000 miles, and it runs the same as it did with 20,000 miles on it.

i say go cummins and get the 5.9 not the 6.7 hell with all that emissions crap the 5.9's are still out there at the dealers as far as i know. like was said before imo cummins is the most realiable least problematic of the bunch. also as was stated they will all pull what you want em too its all preferance. i love my cummins with the 6 speed. its a torque monster.

nice to see another winger in the area...

i am very happy with my cummins and will never buy anything else. i pulled total weight of 25,580 from Pendleton to York PA. got 12.1 MPG hand calc at 65mph the entire trip. i have had NO issues with my cummins. mileage was lower than what it could have been as i have a 13 foot high wall i am towing.

torque is GREAT!! i outpulled fords and chevy's that ha dpassed me, only to get passed on a hill. i am VERY happy with my setup and will be going to the dealership to look at an 07 with 6.7 and 6 speed manual in the next week.
