I posted up on the 2003-2007 section but thought that I should ask those of you who own the new 6.7 liter Cummins. How do you like it? How does it compare to the old(er) 5.9? Was it a good move, in your opinion, on Dodge's part? Any thoughts or anything you would like to add. I am weighing all my options as I am looking to lessen some of my bills. I have two car payments and I am looking to make it one. By trading in two vehicles on the one. I am looking at an 08 Dodge Mega-cab, 4x4, dually. What do ya'll think? Thanks is advance for all your thoughts and ideas you could give me, LT.
just traded my 06 5.9 ctd 2 days ago for a new 07.5 ctd.....so fa r i am happy, but yes its too soon to tell, but i feel good about it....a friend of mine did it 2 months ago and has put 11k on it and he is happy!!!!we both had tons of problems with our 06 5.9 in the shop every other week for some problem(mostly turbos, and running like crap) thought we had 6.0 power??????.....well anyways , yes the new 6.7 will be better!!!!
I have 38000 on my 06 now and NOT ONE issue so far. Driving my truck off the lot was the last time it saw the dealer. I can wonder how some people run their pickups....
So I guess that the question is how long before the 6.7L will be as revered as the great 5.9? It seems like the majority are saying that the 5.9 is still superior to the new 6.7. How long will that last? LT.
I like to mod my trucks, which is harder to do with the new emissions controlled trucks. I am sure that the new 6.7 is a good motor, but a lot of the guys on here like to mod their trucks so that is why they are all voting for the 5.9L. If you plan on keeping the truck stock, the 6.7 will work awesome.
Perhaps, but I have found that there is an exhaust system that will remove the DPF and I have found a few cold air intakes. I have also found a few downloaders for the new 6.7 as well. I have yet to find a turbo upgrade, injectors or a fuel pump. Not a bad start for the new 6.7. I think that it is only a matter of time before the aftermarket world catches up to the new 6.7. Turbo upgrades may be awhile out due to the VGT that the new 6.7 is packing. We will just have to wait and see. LT.
the 5.9 is descent for the most part, but when you actually put the trucks to work and pull trailers everyday and put 104,000 miles in 11 months you need a truck that will hold up better.....and yes the 6.7 over the road is getting better results for a real work truck....i talk to guys everday over the road, and have moved up to the 6.7......sometimes r&d and technology is the way to go and cummins is doing good.....
I wouldn't remove the DPF if it were my truck. The DPF isn't like a cat where you can just remove it and have it run better. Without the DPF, the truck's computer will freak out and you will be just asking for problems. I agree that there will be more and more performance parts out there for the 07 and newer diesels; however, I also think that it is, and will continue to be, more difficult and more expensive to 'mod' these trucks than the older diesels.
The new exhaust system that I found is somewhat incomplete until you also purchase the correct downloader to correct the vehicle ECU for the missing DPF. You can get rid of the DPF (from what I have read) but you also need to reprogram the ECU so that it is fooled into thinking that it is no longer required as part of the stock programing. It sure is a neat idea and I am wondering how well it will work. I have yet to see it in person. But, the idea is sound in theory. I sure would like for someone else to do it, though, before I gave it a shot. LT.
i believe dynomite diesel has injectors for the 6.7 ... saw them advertised somewhere so i know they exist. removing the DPF and spoofing the ECU is a good idea.... has been done before on other makes/models for removing cats in off road exhaust systems. as far as turbos go i'd think ATS will be coming out soon with a compound kit for street use which utilizes the stock turbo and a larger secondary turbo.... should be interesting =D
Drop the 6.7 for the 5.9 Sure, I would prefer to do better than 13 to 15 mpg and have my old 5.9. CTD. I must say the 68 auto trans may be twice the drivetrain of the old 48 auto trans. The rest of my 2007 is still a Dodge, non-plus, below average pick-up. I still have dreams of a Ford with the CTD. The old man said, "If you quit dreaming your dead".
