I want to replace the factory shift knob so I went out to remove old one and can't get it to budge. I have the G56 trans. Does the knob screw off ? I wanted to remove it with out destroying the factory knob. I would appreciate any help

    Knob removal

Ok, take a very small screwdriver or blunt end of a pocket knife and slide it between the plastic gear display and the rubber boot or knob. It should slide in easy. You will feel it hit the bottom of the plastic piece. The plastic piece has a 1/16th inch lip at the bottom to keep the piece from sliding out. You need to get underneath it and it just pops out. Be patient, it may take a while. The faster you go the more damage you'll do to the knob or the display. Once the display is off, use a 15mm socket to remove the nut, then unscrew the knob. If you want pictures, there is a tread about this on dodgeforum.com under cummins diesel. Good luck
