    I started to get my filter and tools out to do a trans service when i remembered i needed to do a band adj. while i had the pan off. Went here for the procedure: http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/transmission/automatic/AT_band_adj.htm
    and i dont know which trans i have? Is there a serial No. somewhere i can referance it?

    Also are those factory spec? Are there changes i can make to make it shift better?

    I wish I knew how to do that. I think if you have an auto it is a 47RE. And either RJF's Red Cummins or Diesel Nut could tell you how to do the band adjustment thing I'll bet...

    1. Call local transmission shop and schedule appointment.

    2. Show up for appointment....

    3. Wait 20 minutes, have a cup of coffee provided by the shop, and check out today's paper.

    {shop noise in background as mech. adj bands, changes filter, etc.}

    4. Pay bill and leave happy as a clam.

    5. Repeat in 1 year.

    I pretty much do everything in house as far as my mechanical work on my equipment, but there a couple of things I will farm out to a shop. One of which is my auto trans services. It's not that expensive and they can do it in just a couple of minutes. Just makes more sense to me.

    bump for another trans question. With 138,xxx miles on my tranny. Would a shift kit be a good recipe for a broken tranny? I found a Transgo TFOD-HD2 for a 500 and 518 trans, kit for cheap from a guy who bought it new and never used it.

    You could put it in, but who knows how much longer the transmission will last. I went through this about 3 years ago, had a guy that wanted the converter, VB and billet input but couldn't afford clutches and rebuild. He came back a week later for the rebuild anyways. Just no knowing with that many miles.
