Here's one that nobody has been able to figure out at the shop yet. About 2 hours into a road trip I'm starting to hit the top of the pass. I'm towing around 12k lbs and running at around 60-65 mph. I'm pushing it pretty hard to keep my speed and all of a sudden I get this "warbley" sound coming up from around the transfer case. If I ease off the pedal it stops but comes right back. This may go on even over the hump of the pass heading down aways. The problem is that I can't pinpoint the location of the noise and the guages are all reading normal. It's something my wife hears in the passenger seat as well. My tranny mech checked the torque converter and transfer case when he did the tranny service at 30K and this still goes on at its current mileage of 58k. The only explanation anyone has been able to come up with is that the oil is heating up on the torque and breaking down at high heat. What do you guys think? Does anyone else have this issue? Is it worth upgrading the TC if I don't even know if its the cause? Is this any issue that's going to leave me stranded on the side of the road some holiday?

Boy, thats a tuff one. Just a weird noise coming from under the tranny hump? A louder noise that sounds metallic is probably not coming from the automatic, as automatics don't usually make much noise at all, even when something is wrong with them. They usually just slip, loose a gear or two, shift goofy, or just go into neutral completely.

Any loss in performance when you hear this noise?

No. Not that I can tell. But without any addons I couldn't tell you what the temps are running on everything. I had an old Nissan hardbody (manual) that used to pop out of gear every time I hit the top of the pass so I think I know what talking about. But I just don't get any noticeable loss. Is it just possible that I'm pushin it too hard?
