Anybody done a NV4500 swap (using a round pattern 205) into a 2nd gen truck? Got any pics of the inside to show where the shifters ended up?
Wasn't the NV4500 available in 91 only on the old body style one ton pickups? I thought that I heard that somewhere. That one should be a direct swap...
I am soooo glad to hear that you are thinking of using your left leg while driving once agian ! Welcome back from the dark side !!! Tom
I have always been under the impression that they still came with the 465 but now that I think about it I dont remember ever actually seeing any 91 stick shift trucks. Since the 4L80E was a one year deal in 91 it wouldn't surprise me. It's my understanding (with the help of TARussell) that the GM version 32 spline NV4500 should bolt right up to my 205 with no adapters. I think I have to do some light grinding on one side of the tranny tailhousing but that's it. I'll have to deal with the 205 shifter since there wont be any rovision for the pivot bolt but that's not too bad. I'm really just kinda curious about where the shifter falls on the inside (ie; dash/seat interference, etc). Tom, I might just put the stick inthe crew cab and go back to the auto plan for the K5 (just to screw with you :stir: ).
Now that is just crazy thinking !!! To the best of my knowledge the 4500 came out in 1992 . I "think" that the factory adapter/tail housing for the 4WD GM 4500's has the same round bolt pattern ( minus the shifter rail clearance ) as the 85 and up 205's did. I am not sure on the output shaft length and if it will be an issue or not. Might have to get a measurement from someone and see if the long 205 input will work or maybe the short 84 and down input ??? I'll bet JB Conversions will know . I talked with John there years ago and he was extremely knowledgeable on swaping parts from different factory offerings. Tom
The stuff I have read says I can either use the long input with an AA spacer (requiring NO grinding for shift rail clearance) or bolt it direct using the short input in the round pattern case (this does require the grinding for shift rail clearance). I did some poking on CK5 and found a stick shift 91, U2Slow. In his profile he lists a 465 so I'd say your right on the 92 introduction of the NV4500. (Don't make me put the TH400 in the K5 to spite you )
