I was wondering how expensive a NV4500 swap to a NV5600 would be and what you would have to modify to make it work. I have a 2000 2500 with a NV4500 and i want that extra gear for towing. Its got a bigger impellor wheel, injectors, and a 6" straight pipe. Im gonna run dual 5" pipes through the bed and i was wondering if there were gonna be any complications with the exhaust to. thanks
The biggest expense would be the trans itself. NV5600's are worth their weight in gold. After that I wouldn't think it would be really difficult. I don't know, but would imagine the t-case would bolt to either trans, depending on output shafts. You might have to move the crossmember and will probably need the driveshafts out of an HO truck too. IF you get the 5600 at a wrecking yard the shafts should be easy, since they probably have them that came from the same truck. 6" strait pipe? Why?
You will also need to find a 6 spd flywheel and clutch.......the 5600 runs a larger clutch and corresponding flywheel that will not accept the 4500 clutch and flywheel. Or you could just go to Southbend and get the complete flywheel/clutch combo and never have to worry about any future clutch issues. I think the 5600 is slightly longer so be prepared for driveshaft mods too.
