From everything I have read, the only real 'advantage' to going with an aftermarket intake is a louder turbo spool-up. Is there a baffle or muffler of some type that I could simply remove if I want to hear more turbo?

im not sure about the gm stuff but my dodge had a baffle that i took out when i installed my air raid. i read a article that goes with what your saying, the only thing i can imagine is that you have a bigger filter area with the aftermarket stuff and that different filters will work better in different driving stuations.....other than that they look pretty cool when ya open the hood

You have a few baffles and such, but non removable. You would have to swap it all out for an AFE or something of that sort.

Aftermarket intakes do more than make noise. They can bring more air in and usually use a much better cone filter instead of the cheesy flat filter. Hi powered trucks have problems with sucking the stock filter out of it's seat in the stock box.
