Holy Crap! Those must have been some heavy loads. We had a crane down at work on Monday. It was picking up pieces of a printing press that weighed 35000-40000lbs.
Silly question. Not being a crane operator..... Why can't they drop the boom and ease the machine back down to the ground?
Happens real fast, and the newer cranes have computers that stop you from sudden movements. Bottom line there was their lift plan was WAY wrong and someone was not paying attention. Some one goofed bad an I really hope no one was hurt. After a second look, these guys on the ground had no idea what they were doing.
Having been around alot of cranes. These guys must have been rocket scientists. I seem to have heard it a thousand times over. "go ahead suck on it see if it will take it" Just happy to have all of my parts still working.
Exactly. In Washington we had an operator set the tip of the boom down on top of the turbine case. Every time I hear an operator say "they under rate them, there's more available" I cringe. And whenever possible I would not stand near the fall zone.
The riggers on that lift should have been fired on the spot. The mechanics and physics of that pick were totally wrong on so many levels. Better crane positions, pick points relocated, and that would have been a no big deal job. Morons
