trying to find all the info i need to register my IH as a recreational vehicle. it will allieveate having to put DOT "s and the fuel issue, and traveling across state lines problems with it having commercial truck plates.
    in IL
IL defines a RV as "recreational vehicle is defined as "Every camping trailer, motor home, mini-motor home, travel trailer, truck camper or van camper used primarily for recreational purposes and not used commercially nor owned by a commercial business" (625 ILCS 5/1-169). A motor home, mini-motor home, or van camper displaying Recreational Vehicle (RV) license plates must contain at least four of the following six equipment items: 1) a cooking facility with an on-board fuel source; 2) a gas or electric refrigerator; 3) a toilet with exterior evacuation; 4) a heating or air conditioning system with an on-board power or fuel source separate from the vehicle engine; 5) a drinkable water supply system that includes at least a sink, a faucet, and a water tank with a an exterior service supply connection; 6) a 110-15 volt electric power supply. If a van does not meet the RV equipment requirements, the applicant should purchase either passenger or B-truck license plates, depending on the design and use of the vehicle (625 ILCS 5/1-145.01)."
"Trucks with camper shells or toppers qualify for RV plates if the vehicle is primarily used for recreational purposes and provides temporary living quarters for the recreational travel or camping use. (625 ILCS 5/1-211.01)
Motorized Recreational Vehicles are drawn by their own motive power. Vanity and Personalized Motorized Recreational Vehicle license plates are available"

to me that means as long as my truck is privatly owned by me and not my bussiness it qualifies, as its primary use will be recreation.
    so if i had
#1. a microwave, would this qualify, would be a cooking source.
    #2 a electric minifridge.
#4 my roof top 110volt 11,000btu AC unit with heat strip
#6, a 110volt supply. aka a power inverter i could use to run soem of my stuff when on the road, when not plugged in at a campsite.
how much of a power invertor would i need for a microwave, or the fridge?
so by law i qualify for RV plates correct? do i need to prove it anyone, or just order up my plates, slap them on, and carry a copy of the vehicles services book in the dash?

Interesting, I would make a trip to the motor vechicle department and see if you can plate it that way, they would be the ones to say yes or no?
