My neighbor found a 01 Dodge 1-ton dually 4x4 for sale. Has 250K on it. Fully loaded and in quite good shape. Has a manual tranny. Comes with Banks perf intake system as well as complete Banks exhaust system.

Since I am Dodge & diesel challenegd, what are some things he should be concerned of? I know enough to check the standard leaks, seals, etc.

I had always heard to not be worried of 2-300K on a cummins. Thanks.

Is this the H.O. model or the fairly rare standard model with the NV4500 5 spd? Dodge offered both the H.O/6spd trucks and the S.O./5spd trucks in 2001 but most guys went with the H.O. model. My dad drives a loaded H.O. 2002 dually , sweet truck.

The H.O. VP44 IP's are known to be even more problematic than the S.O. models so I woud have the fuel pressure checked. Ask the seller about the fuel system and what he has had to do to it after that many miles (he definantly had to work on it by now with 250K). Besides that I can't really think of a whole lot of things. There is a good chance it has had a ball joint replacement with that many miles too. The main thing the fuel system, ask about it. Just do a search on the "VP44 injection pump problems."

I wouldn't be afraid of the truck as long as it's in good shape. With that many miles little things need to be looked at like door pins, suspension bushings, steering column parts (meaning blinkers, horn buttons on the blinker switch, etc.)

For a 2001 and that many miles, plus it being a manual....it was probably a hot shot truck. That is probably a good thing, meaning it's probably seen some heavy loads and heavy pulling but it's all freeways miles.

I recommended to my buddy to pay to have it checked out. He's got some pull at a local GMC dealership. Sow he did & it turns out said vehicle has a cracked block.

    So, the search continues :doah:
