I have 2006 F350 with the 6.0 diesel that I wanted to put a Bully Dog or similar chip in, but a friend of mine who is a mechanic at a Ford dealer told me not to because it would blow the head gaskets. He said the chips were safe for the 7.3 but not the 6.0. Can anyone give me any info on this? Thanks, Clint.
I have seen a couple of 6.0Ls with blown head gaskets while visiting my buddies at the dealer. However, I have installed a couple of chips in 6.0s and haven't had any engine failures. All of the chips I installed in the 6.0s were the Edge Juice w/Attitude. That chip really wakes the truck up, but I question the quality of the Edge product.
If you look at the 6.0L forum over on www.thedieselstop.com you will find all the info you need about what programmers are safe to run, which ones arent. In fact, TDS just did a shootout with all of the latest programmers for the 6.0L with a big chart and all the findings of how much power each one made, what it cost, ........
Personally, I grew up a Ford guy. I learned to drive on a 1990 F350 diesel/5 speed. I wouldn't own a 6.0 unless it was free. TOO MANY PROBLEMS! Edge makes some great chips, but add at YOUR OWN RISK! The 6.0L are so hit and miss you just don't know what you have. I would sugest you start small ans see how your engine reacts. I say this because I know a guy who lost the whole motor. Not good. poor design, I think.
