I'm looking at power mods for my 2004.5 5.9 CTD. I'm specifically looking for towing power and safe EGT's (don't want a race truck) and something that won't smoke my clutch. I typically tow a 2 horse w/ tack room horse trailer (6-8000lbs.), flatbed trailers (6000-10,000lbs. of hay), and a 38' 5th wheel toyhauler with 2 Harley's (16,000lbs?). My truck is 4x4 w/ the 6 speed and 4.10 gears. I am also running 35" tires. The only mods are I lost my muffler. What's worked good for you?

I had an Edge Juice w/ Attitude on my 3rd gen. It adds more then enough power and you can set the module to limit the EGT, Boost, and Transmission slip so that you don't damage your truck at all (ie while towing).

Even though this chip offers more additional power then you need, you can just keep it in the lower levels (or off) when you're towing but then you will have the option to add a ton of extra power to have fun with when you are empty.

The Edge Juice w/ Attitude is one of the best horsepower gain per dollar mod's out there and it even comes with gauges. For towing just stay in Level 2 or below to take it easy on your transmission.

Your 35's aren't hurting you with 4.10 gears, you are about perfect!

Well, Like Ben said, the Edge is a great unit. Use it on level 1 or 2 for better towing performance and crank it up for fun. Includes gauges, wich is important. You NEED to do gauges if you increase power, so keep that in mind. Other great options -

    Smarty
    Diablosport Predator
    Quadzilla Xzillaraider
    TS MP-8

    And More

Any of these can increase power and mileage when driven sensibly. All will require at least a Pyrometer.

Go with the Smarty and you will get everything you are looking for.

I just ordered a smarty and it should be here today. My 38ft toy hauler is a little more than 16k... more on the 18k lines and I just got a quadzilla commander gauge set so I will know more about what my truck is doing. i will let you know when I find out more.

I guess since you just won the giveaway you don't need a smarty now. :)

I have the Quadzilla X2 xzt module which gives 65 hp and 165 ft. lbs torque. Great for towing and safe! I also have the Quad commander for gauges and to control the xzt. Hook up with Jason from Diesel Nut and he will do you right! waytogo
