I've got a 2002 PSD Dually 4x4 with 50xxx miles. Yesterday my wife was driving it and called to say that it was making a noise and fluid was all under the drivers fender. So I leave work to go get her. When I got there it was easy to find. The high pressure line going into the ps pump was shooting fluid out. Looked to be a pin hole between the square block and swivel on the line where it goes into the back of the pump. So I removed it and went to the parts store bought a replacement and changed it in the MickyD's parking lot. Its turning and braking fine but the pump is now louder than normal. Is the pump messed up or could there be air in the lines? If its bad what should I replace it with? If its air in the lines, how do I bleed it correctly? I only added about 1/2 of standard ps fluid. Should I had used something else? I do a lot of towing with this truck so I can't afford for it to crap out later.

Sound like the power steering pump is going out. If it's making noise it's out of fluid or going out. ford uses ATF for there p/s. Ford pumps are fine products, stay away from napa

I've never changed the fluid out. Still running the standard fluild I put in that day. The whinning was air in the lines. A day or so later it stopped making any noise.
