my buddy has a 02 stroker auto dually 4 door 2wd with about 100000miles. he is wanting to know what kind of mods that he could do to his pick up that would be good and not hurt his every day driveablity. its pretty much stock but a striaght pipe and a K&n air filter, he also has gauges on the way .
A Hypertech stage three programer is what I would recomend also a cold air intake also something to look at a new turbo, intercooler, injectors and synthetic fuilds all the way around.I know a guy claiming to get 27.5 mpg in his wifes Excursion with a 7.3 I dont belive it but it might be possible.
Considering it is a 02 7.3 I would not do too much because it has powdered metal rods (PMR) not the forged rods. Get a cold air intake (Tymar), DP Tuner custom programmed chip, Jodi is very good at programming, his chips are nothing like a "off the shelf chip/programmer". If you go to big injectors like the 530's mentioned and a big turbo you are very likely to window the block by throwing a rod with those PMR's. Black widow diesel in IA has some nice stock replacement turbos, as well as some stage 1 injectors that should be very reliable for daily use and towing. Get rid of that K&N in the stock air box. The stock air box does not seal properly to the air fliter element no matter whose it is leading to unfiltered air going into the negine. Considering the truck already has 100k on the trans I would save up for a BTS, or Suncoast transmission. I know they are high $$ but the piece of mind in knowing that you have the best is worth every penny. I went through 5 trannies by local rebuilders before finally getting my BTS, it’s the best mod I've done yet. Since you are a Cummins guy, BTS would be comparable to Goerend Bro. for the DCX trannies. https://shop.blackwidowdiesel.com/splashPage.hg http://www.suncoastconverters.com/ http://www.brianstruckshop.com/ http://www.dp-tuner.com/ http://www.tymarperformance.com/
