I will be moving from Kalifornia to Virginia next year and I have too many vehicles. I can ship one through the military and I plan on towing another with my K5. I know I know K5s are not the "Ultimate" tow rig but it is all I got. It will have a 60 and 14FF by the time I end up doing this. My question is should I just rent a dolly or rent or buy a trailer. A dolly weighs about #700 and the cars weigh #2300 for saturn and ~#2700 for Protoge. I would like to tow the heavier car because it is newer and I would like to keep my eyes on it. The saturn I do not care if it gets dinged up or not as it is only my commuter. The trailer if I rent is about #2000 and if I buy I am looking at a PJ 20 foot 10K trailer which when I get my real tow rig will be used to haul the K5. The PJ trailer weighs about #2400. Finally my question is is #5400 too much to put behind a blazer? I also have an electric brake set up on the blazer with a 7 pin connector so I would have electric brakes on the trailer. Sorry for the length but if I am going to buy a trailer I prolly should start savin.

    Thanks.

If you are planning on buying a trailer anyway, and will have the funds to do so, I would buy the PJ and just take it easy with the Blazer when you are towing. I would stay away from the tow dolly alltogether. While the trailer and car might be a bit on the heavy side, you will have 1 ton axles, and hopefully some good HD tires. Maybe some helper springs would be in order for more safety assurance. With proper balance, and good trailer brakes, you will be just fine.

Go with the trailer. Try and stiffen up the rear springs just a little if you can with either helper springs or throw another leaf in the pack. You will be fine with just 5,400 lbs.

Most blazers have a class 3 hitch and can handle 6,000 lbs with a WD hitch. You should be fine.

If you are going to buy a trailer eventually, then just buy the trailer you want now, and run with it. The K5 will do pretty decent.. the only problem I would see is the short wheelbase, but I think it can still be done effectively, if you are smart about it.
