I have a small whine in my 1993 Chevy dually rear-end. I am trying to find out if this is normal. (I can only hear it up to 50mph and the road noise is enough to drown out) I have been searching high and low for actual numbers on unloaded/loaded operating temps for rear ends, specifically for a GM 10.5 14bolt. After driving 3hrs @ 80mph unloaded the rear end was hot but not scolding. Ambient was 40F Thank you for your input.

I know this might sound dumb but you have checked the fluid level correct? Is the 14 bolt open or do you have a gov lock?

When I felt it, the level was where it was supposed to be, I dont know it it has a govlok, I am going to pull the cover and check things out. I will let you know what I find. waytogo
