    Will Be Installing A Pryo Guage On My 04.5 And Was Just Wondering What The Difference Is If You Tap The Sending Unit Into The Exhaust Manifold Or Just Behind The Turbo?

    The difference will be if you get an accurate reading or not. If it's behind the turbo, you could burn a piston before you actually see the temps come up much. Pre turbo and you get instant readings of what the actuall temp the pistons and head are seeing.

    Thanks for the input. That's kind of what I thought is that there could be a difference in the temp reading, but didn't know if it would be enough to make any difference. I am a little concerned about getting metal particles in the exhaust manifold ahead of the turbo. Someone suggested using lots of grease to catch as much as possible, then clean it out with a magnet. Any thoughts on that? Thanks for the response.

    Thats the way I install them here in the shop. DOn't need lots of grease, just some. The material is Cast, so it won't make nice little curly shavings, like regular steel will. It will chip off cause its brittle. The grease will catch the majority of these. Use a pen sized magnet like they sell at the cash register at Ace Hardware to clean out the rest of the shavings after you have tapped the hole.

    Most pyrometers use an 1/8"NPT tap and that tap requires an 11/32" drill bit. Use an appropriate pilot bit.
