My 2004.5 CTD with 23,000 miles started making a loud high speed tapping noise and smoking at 75 mph, all gauges stayed normal, engine never missed a beat. will crank and run fine except for the before mentioned tapping and smoking. The dealer first said it may be the waste gate. Now they are saying I have two bad injectors and may have a bottom end knock. They want to throw in a short block for $10,500.00 because my juice vioded the warranty.

Anybody have this happen to there CTD [IMG]

    Thanks BIGHEAD

I have a 04.5 CTD with 27,000 miles on it. It makes a ticking noise at idle I cant hear if it is doing it at speed. The dealer told me that it was OK.But today after I got my oil changed I was talking to a tech and he told me to take all my toys off and bring it back he thinks its a bad pump.On mine the fuel lines are making the noise the tech knows I have after market injectors and doesn't think those are the problem. How bid they know you had the juice on the truck. Did you leave on the truck and they saw it?

I was in the middle of pulling it when the dealers tow truck pulled up. Never had that fast of service before.

well to say that the juice voided the warranty, they have to have documented proof by law that says that it is exactly what caused the injectors to go bad. if they cant provide you with that information, looks like they are buying you an 11k engine! my dealership even said i can load up my truck with everything on the aftermarket, and if no-one can find proof that the parts are what caused the problem, my warranty still stands

That sounds fine and dandy but about 90% of people who have had mods and went to the dealer were denied waranty service.

As far as the ticking, make sure to check yoru oil level and make sure it's not over full. You could have an injector going out and filling the crankcase with fuel.

I picked it up from the dealer in Mississippi that wanted to replace the block 1 1/2 weeks ago and dropped it off at my home town dealer.
I picked it up today with two new injectors and $1352.00 out of my pocket.
Now I can start the fight with the warranty administrator in Dallas.
I've learned in my research that the early 2004.5 600 CTD's they released had injector problems this may help me out.

i have "extra" wires going into my PCM, so the dealer wont look at my list of 8 codes that keep getting thrown. my truck is stock, but it does have "extra wires" going into the PCM. they are for the dealer installed jake brake... jackasses. if burning buildings down was legal id do it twice. once just after they finished the rebuild.

needless to say ill just have to go to the dealer one day while thier tech is working with the install instructions to the jake.
