For any of you guys that are considering an exhaust system for your new dodge, I have a suggestion. Initially, I took the truck to a muffler shop and had them remove the muffler... it was cheap and loud so i went for it haha. The cummins sounds pretty cool w/o a muffler but when I was pulling a trailer, the continual drone from the motor started giving me a headache... therefore, i was motivated to put a muffler on there. i decided to go with a flowmaster 50 series delta flow (which i believe is the only 4'' muffler that flowmaster makes). i bought the muffler from bigexhaust.com for like $150 and took it to the muffler shop and had them weld it on. In addition to the muffler, i had them cut out the cat. the sound is greatly improved by removing the cat (you can hear the turbo in the exhuast a lot more). additionally, i actually noticed a bit of a power increase along with a decrease in EGT by removing the cat. so, if any of you guys are contemplating what to do about your exhaust, i would definitley recommend removing the cat and replacing the original muffler with a 50 series delta flow flowmaster cuz it sounds friggin sweetimp:
You put a gas engine flowmaster in your truck? I've seen the inside of those mufflers, and seen the inside of a real diesel specific performance muffler and the difference between the designs are huge.
i had a flowmaster on my truck that was put on at the same time they removed the cat and it does sound pretty good. but i think my mbrp is so much better when towing because of the drone
yeah i know the real diesel mufflers are pretty much a strait through design but the muffler i bought is actually the one that they sell you when you get the 'diesel exhaust system' so i guess it is kindof designed for it... whatever though alls i know is it sounds way better then it did... nice and quiet at low throttle and deep and mean sounding when you step on it
I would never buy a system for a diesel from Flowmaster. I was interested in their 4" system a long time ago, called their tech line and asked the man if that 50 series was a different muffler that was designed for a diesel. His response was " It's our only street muffler with a 4" inlet/outlet and exhaust is exhaust, regardless of the type of fuel the vehicle uses." I promptly told thanks but I think I am going to go with a different company that designed a true diesel system. Also, IIRC, I checked the part numbers and the muffler part number was the same as the muffler in a gas system that also used the 50 series. I'm not trying to rag on you, as I'm sure it does sound good because that is why I originally wanted a FM system, but I wanted a true diesel system with a strait through diesel designed muffler. If you are happy thats what matters, waytogo
The main difference between the 2 is hpw the sound is muffled compared to flow. Yes your exhaust may sound insane, but flow may be down.
yeah totally... im happy with it. these trucks have so dang much power that it is worth a couple horsepower sacrifice if it means sounding how i like it
I can't argue with that! If you like it then I'd say you got the right exhaust! One other thing to mention, power additions will change your exhaust sound. Even at idle. I know that when you install a TST they truck sounds completly different.
MBRP has a great sound It's not as loud as a straight pipe, but when I'm on it, my wife hears me cummin rotfl close to 2/3 of a mile out. The kids have even picked up on the sound and are waiting for me when I get home...
