I finally forked over the bucks and bought a superchips tuner. Wow, I am really impressed. I tuned into the high performance mode on my '97 F350 7.3 turbo and noticed an increase in power and throttle response. I am now going to re-program into the tow safe mode since I use the truck mostly to pull my 9000LB toy hauler. I will see if I gain power or get better fuel milage and pass on my findings. By the way I ordered the superchips tuner on-line from Autoanything.com. for $310.00 with free shipping. Ordered last Monday and recieved from UPS on Friday.
Sweet, Congradswaytogo. You should be able to get slightly better mileage, if you can keep your foot out of it. When I got my chip, I couldnt help but use that extra get up an go!!!! But, after a while I drove more conservativly and got better mileage.
Make sure you get atleast an EGT gauge. Install a better air filter and an exhaust system and you will be amazed at the difference, especially when pulling your toyhauler!
Yeah it is tempting to use the extra power. I repalced the stock filter with a K&N and will probaly install a Magnaflow exhaust later.
The exhaust is a great upgrade especially the down pipe off the turbo, the stock one is very restrictive and putting a 3" pipe mandrel pipe in there really helps out. http://www.bd-power.com/ford/product.php?pn=Exhaust Systems&tt=ford
superchip i have had mine for about 20,000 miles now & no complaints. i get much better MPH in high. i have noticed that when in the tow safe mode it tends to over fuel more at WOT (black smoke at wide open throtle), but who really cares if you smoke out a rice rocket or two. verry happy with mine plus you can check trouble codes. enjoy have fun & drive hard!waytogo imp:
waytogo I am really happy with the superchips tuner. I have noticed a really nice gain in power and am now getting 13.6 mpg city/ and up to 17 on hwy. I think that is wonderfull for a crew cab dually! I plan to replace the exhaust soon with a 4" turbo back system. Probably am going to go with magnaflow.
