Im looking to buy my first fifth wheel hitch and wanted to get you-alls imput. I have a 2006 F350 crew cab short bed 4x4. Do I need a sliding hitch for backing and tight turns? And is a superglide over-kill or a good way to go? Any other wisdom is greatly welcomed as well. Thanks in advance, Howard.
Pullrite Superglide sale Go to Pullrite.com and check it out. If you see you need a superglide go to pplmotorhomes.com and search for the superglide hitches. They have them on sale for a pretty good price. My present TV is a F-150 CC, 4x4, 5 ft ?in box. I have a Reese slider hitch which I have to get out and release and slide hitch back to maneuver mode to turn sharp and still can't go but about 70-80 deg turn. Then I have to release the maneuver mode to travel mode and slide hitch forwardto travel. PIA and if you forget goodbye cab. I just bought a 2006 Chevy 2500 D/A 6.5 ft bed and I just ordered an 18K hitch from PPL last night. I talked to a friend of mine that has the same truck and hitch and he says he loves his. No worries about forgetting about moving slide and damaging TV and camper. I think main drawback is that you have to have a special plate for pin box to allow it to pivot. You have to have the grab plate and hitch rail kit along with the hitch. All three are on sale though. I have been searching for the last 2-3 days and this is the cheapest I have found them. I own a superglide myself and I love it. I own a 2500 hd short box and the very first time I pulled a fifthwheel and went camping I had to back it in blind sided on a hill in a turn on a narrow dirt path the only thing I would recomend when you lube the guide bars use lubriplate it is a teflon based spray and it dries quickly.
Lubriplate Steve, the factory recommends a graphite spray called "SlipPlate Graphite Spray". You are saying Lubriplate is a Teflon based spray. Do you think the Teflon works better than the graphite or have you tried a graphite spray? I am asking because I have yet to hook up to my camper so I don't have an opinion yet. Do you use anything on the lower roller on the cam? Thanks Dewayne
I looked at the can it is slip plate. the stuff works awsome. matter of fact I tore my hitch completely apart today and cleaned everything and srayed new slip plate on the guide bars and taped of the decals and sprayed the hitch with some black rustoleum spray paint boy does the hitch look awsome just like I just bought it. I getting ready to hit florida during easter break so I got to get everything ready truck and trailer.as far as the bearing no I think its a closed roller bearing the only thing I do is keeping it clean.
Thanks for the info on the hitch. I bought another brand locally and sprayed on it initually. In another forum someone said they used a local brand graphite spray satisfactorily. I may get some Slip Plate and try it later once I pull one time just to see if brands vary. Been so busy for us and cold in SW Ga for the last month that I haven't been camping at all. The Bluegrass festival circuit is coming up soon so DW and I will be on the road to them regularly. Again thanks for the tips. Later Dewayne
I know what you mean its been cold but atleast your not sitting in two feet of snow freezing your buns off like I am in mich.
Cold Better you than me. waytogo If I ain't there in 15 min go ahead without me. rotfl It is to be 28 deg here this weekend and that is cold enough for me. I have only seen the teen's 2-3 times in my life and that was to many. I have a forum friend in Okla that lost most of the trees on his property during one of the last storms that went through in Dec. Seriously I hope you stay safe and well through all this weather . I see it is very bad on the weather reports up there and through Okla, Neb and that area. Later Dewayne
