Anybody used one of the add-on oil filters that use a roll of paper towels or toilet paper as the media? I've heard that they work pretty well for removing soot from oil used in diesel engines, but I'm looking for some real-world results.
I haven't heard of those types... I'm assuming it's a bypass style system where only part of the oil goes through it? I just use Fleetguard Stratopore oil/fuel/air filters.
Yes, they are bypass style, so the oil all gets through it, it's just not forced through like a regular filter. You use them in addition to the regular ones and I've heard that they can make your oil last for 50k+ miles.
Well as long as the dealer doesn't have a problem with it then I guess it couldn't hurt. I know on my truck, it runs a higher pressure oil system and cummins will deny waranty coverage if they find you run a Fram filter on it... The Fram's are built well enough to handle the pressure and the filter breaks up and plugs the oil nozzles that cool the pistons.
I just remembered that I get free oil changes every 3000 miles for as long as I own the truck, so it wouldn't make alot of sense for me to add additional filtering anyways.

i got 1 -- well a price 1 it will filter down to 3 mic crons and my oil looks like as cleen as the day i put it in link to what i got --- http://filtrationsolutionsww.com/ i all so have a coolent Filter to - it works well to but mostly gets the sand out of the casting and i cut a filter open and found a lot it could fill a bottal cap
I have always changed my own oil and would prefer it too, but with 15 quarts of oil at $2 each plus a $15 filter, I'll go ahead and let them take care of it. If I could just go down there every 3k and get free oil and a filter, that would be ideal. Burt, I'm a masterdebater.
