Under the throttle body on my 88 TBI 454 there is a spacer with heater hose going in one side and out the other...some sort of fuel/air warmer??? Do I need hot fuel/air??? I thought the goal was to put cool air in??? I've got to put a new throttle body on and thought it was time to investigate a little.
Yes ... it is a thermo spacer... not on the small block... it is required because gm wanted to heat the area below the carb with coolant in the hopes of atomizing the fuel better... you can probably get away without it in warm climes but not cold ones... the motor wont run well and the sensors will want to richen the mix all the time,,, here in cali it's removal MAY violate smog and a sharp smog guy would catch it gone.... remember ALL the equipment has to be there.... I put on a edelbrock performer on my 454 tbi 89 v3500.... edelbrock builds it into their manifold... its is a PITA because the hoses get real busy back there,,,but it does fit if you play around with it It would sure clean things up to have it gone but Im stuck with it ...built in... I could bypass it but all the gm advice was ...dont... the motor wont run as well cam
454tbi spacer i have an edelbrock 454 tbi intake for my 88 dually that i haven't installed yet but i planned on blocking it off when i install it (but i live in GA and i doesn't really get cold here). that thermo adapter is designed to heat the area around the tbi unit to keep it from freezing and also adapts an Qjet intake to a tbi unit. burnout good luck eldogg
